An original Vikings TV series fan (Netflix), couldn't help but watch Vikings:Valhalla

Solid first season along similar lines as the original but set 100 years later.  Lots of Easter eggs and nods to the original series and the character influences are at times apparent.  I look forward to season 2.  7/10

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

On the Viking bandwagon, I have been watching Norsemen (Netflix NZ) and am part way through season 2

A thoroughly enjoyable farce which exaggerates the Viking tropes (many references to raping and pillaging) and adds some quite brutal truth to their way of life while still seeing the lighter side of things.

Enjoyable, if you like that sort of thing. 7/10

How I met your father (Disney+) - first two episodes

Was a big fan of HIMYM. The scripting and use of foreshadowing and callbacks was ahead of its time. Too bad about the horrible, horrible ending. I'm hoping they learnt some lessons with this.

Lukewarm, but got some potential and I'm hoping it will grow on me.

- Some nice references to HIMYM

- English dude reminds me of Jack Whitehall - he's quite annoying

- They still do laugh tracks in comedies? Have to get used to this

I am not falling in love with HIMYF yet, I'll give it another couple of eps and then if it's not getting better quickly, I'm gonna pull the pin. It has some good bits, but I am finding some of it a bit.. meh.

Having said that, since HIMYM and comedies that finished around the same time, I haven't really found anything really good and funny.

Just finished watching 1883 - a prequel to Yellowstone. A bit slow at times and gritty but pretty good overall. 8/10.

jnimmo: Glad to see Derry Girls on Netflix!

Just had a promo pop up on Facebook from UK Channel 4 saying series 3 isn't far off.

Hopefully Netflix will pick that up too, this show's a good laugh.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

@ilovemusic:

ITV's adaptation of the 60's Cold War classic The Ipcress File.

Excellent cast.

Well paced at only six episodes.

Provides more background into Harry Palmer than the Michael Caine film.

Very good

8/10

This is coming to Acorn TV from 18 April.

I watched the first episode of Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber, and WeCrashed about WeWork...but mostly about Adam Neumann so far.  Both are a good watch.  I think Super Pumped is going for a Social Network vibe.  Interesting that we've reached the point in time where we're not watching TV shows based on Podcasts based on events that are only 2 years old.  I assume The Dropout about Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos is a similar bent.

Finished watching the latest seasons of Top Boy on Netflix. Was a bit more dramatised than the first 3 seasons, which had a very underground and raw vibe to it - suspect it was something to do with netflix picking it up.

Nonetheless, still very enjoyable, but I am a sucker for gritty pom shows

If you haven't seen it before and are interested, careful you watch the right one first.. netflix has made a mess of it in their library.. "top boy summer house" is the first 2 seasons, then "top boy" are seasons 3 and 4

I was totally the same! Had to re-read to check if I’d mis-read it - I guess a capital (“gritty Pom”) would have helped… [Edit - nah, still see it!]

Likely says something about my eyesight and/or dirty mind.

Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on HBO

Three episodes in and it’s excellent. John C Reilly is off the chain.

It’s a lot like a play but in a very good way. Very meta but so fun. 9/10.

It was a good show if you didn't take it too seriously, but a bit like those old Westerns where they never run out of bullets.
