Although if you're northbound out of the Terrace tunnel and miss the Thorndon exit it's a fair schlep all the way up Ngauranga Gorge and turning around at Newlands.

This post is too political for the COVID forum, and is an example of (dark) political humour, so here goes ...

BBC News - Macron refused to take Russian Covid test

today

French President Emmanuel Macron refused a Russian Covid test ahead of his meeting with Russia's Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin has confirmed.

The test required a health protocol that was unacceptable and did not fit with the French leader's schedule, a French source told the BBC.

It follows reports that Mr Macron refused the PCR test over fears the Russians would get hold of his DNA.

The leaders subsequently held a socially-distanced meeting on Monday.

They did not shake hands and sat with a four-metre-long table between them, with observers wondering whether Mr Putin was using it to send a diplomatic message.

But French diplomatic sources told Reuters that Mr Macron had been told to choose between accepting a Russian PCR test to get closer to Putin or abide by strict social distancing rules.

Not "smile" per se, but I found this article about sleep fascinating. It was mentioned on QI this week so credit to the "QI elves" for bringing it to my attention!

I basically do that as it is, come home, have a nap and then get up and do productive stuff. Does mean I cant do noisy stuff with power tools but I have no energy for that after dealing with work all day anyway.

I have finalised my business model for the near future after the first, successful test run and I am happy to be able to act independently, unnaive openly and honestly in a veritable shark tank, while really helping people with fair service. This is in line with my friendly 'take it or leave it' mentality.

(Sorry, the service only applies under EU jurisdiction and will not be further mentioned here.) 😋

BTW for the guy from NZ using chained proxies to scan/analyze my IP address - the secret is that I‘m on multiple ISPs with different line speeds and you are on the wrong one to see any pinholed ports. ;-)

This completely emptied possum feeder:

Will have to refill it with more yummy possum food.

As an aside, maybe I'm just imagining this but there are a lot more fresh green leaves on the natives planted at the bottom of the garden.

No, I am in Te Awakairangi (Hutt city) I was taking a brake from report writing and sitting on our deck with a coffee. The C230H is a great looking bird with a great chorus.

Just had a call from Spark that my Internet was being cut off. Interesting since I’m with Vodafone. International people were accessing it from overseas!

Ahh well...I gave her the dumb answers she needed while she guided me to the computer told me to sit in front of it and told me to press the third key from the left, windows key and R and what did I see. Nothing, I said. The frustration was rising, she kept telling me I’d lose my internet in an hour and it was urgent. I said I wouldn’t mind because I don’t use it too much and it’s my imaginary son's computer. Her voice was rising as she tried to get me to push the keys and tell her what I saw. Finally, I told her Nah, too complicated and I’d wait for my son to fix everything.

Rude cow hung up in my ear.

No patience eh. I remember when scammers had the patience to let you waste an hour of their time. Those were the days.

Must admit though it does rattle you because you wonder exactly where they got your number from and how much else they know about you. It sounded like a busy call centre. You hope they can’t do something back in revenge.

It may be that they've got your name & number from some dataset that they've bought off data miners. How much did they know about you, if anything? Whatever you do, don't give them any further information. That will go into their database and likely be on-sold to other scammers, and be used against you some time in the near future.

Or their auto-dialer may have simply dialed your number at random. The fact that you answered is a data item that will be recorded and on-sold. But hopefully also the fact that you're a "joker" who wastes their time, so that you'll go onto their do-not-call list.

As soon as she said Spark, I listened carefully to what personal information she would give me, name etc but it was all generic stuff thank goodness. The background sounded like a very busy call centre with lots of voices. Makes you think what a huge operation it probably is and how many innocents get scammed.
