My partner's role means she can't, otherwise she would (corrected my post). I will be WFH, though - schools are closed for the next 2 days as well. Yay for yet another unplanned school holiday πŸ˜•

I feel you. I feel like my kids haven't had a decent school year for 1/3 of their school careers. My sons school is LFH tomorrow but my daughter's is just closed.

I (politely) raised concerns last year about it, the Principal didn't like that at all. I feel we made an error in choosing that Intermediate.

There are many service closures. No trains in AK region tomorrow. I'm aware some CBD offices are proactively closing. A lot will be closed.

If you have to go then check traffic maps and work advice before you go. There's every chance it's not worth it tomorrow.

What needs to be considered, is that for every car on the road unnecessarily, you are adding to the risk for every vehicle that does need to be there. You increase the likelihood that emergency services might have to rescue you, or you may have an accident.

This topic needs a rename. Gabrielle is not Auckland only, or the 27th.

'Monster' waves in the Coromandel which are pretty big but look nothing like the ones between Xmas and NY to be honest. In Whangamata they were hitting a cliff and soaking the top of the trees at the top of it. It was awesome and terrifying to watch.

11 meters recorded in the Bay of Islands.apparently. The bad thing is the forecast storm surge adding nearly half a meter to normal sea levels in some locations.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Fairly steady rain all night but the winds seem to have dropped off a bit this morning.

Auckland is being covered by the flows being broken up over the Coromandel. It will get spicy as more of the wind starts to come from the south, right about when we get the biggest amounts of rain. There is a chance that this could be a very heavy and slow moving downpour - I note the hourly totals are lower now for this afternoon/tonight, but they now cover a much longer time frame.

I'm in the office for a couple of hours today and then heading home before lunch. Daycares being closed til Weds have really stuffed up our week. We have no leave left.

Last night was one of my worst nights ever.

The wind was so strong I was genuinely worried about the roof going or something flying off.

Never felt this much fear before living in Auckland from the weather.

I'm with you here...  basically lying on my side, staring out the window to a tall skinny Kauri swaying in the strong wind..
Each crack in the roof/ceiling sending a jolt of adrenaline... I probably slept for 10min all up 😱

We should at this stage thank those who build our houses. It's standing up to the wind!
