Lion. Highly recommend it. Very well made film based on a simple but powerful true story. I defy anyone not to be moved by the conclusion. Three teenage sons all enjoyed it.

freitasm:

Watched Hidden Figures last night. What a good story of women's rights, racial rights/tension, space and science. 8/10 for the whole setup.

Also saw A United Kingdom last week. Interesting story but not sure about the whole movie. Give it a 7/10.

Where did you find these, freitasm?

Watched both of those in the cinemas - Paramount and Lighthouse. Yes, I know, two movies outing in a week...

3 Movies this week:

Magnificent 7 - Pretty good movie, some nice action, 7.5/10

Independence Day - Resurgence - I really enjoyed this. I can't understand the panning it got. Sure, a few corny bits, but the graphics were awesome and scale was excellent, plot wasn't terrible. 8/10

Bridge of Spies - Pretty much if you put Tom Hanks together with Speilberg, you are in for a cracker, and this was no exception. 8/10

Really?? I rated it at 1/10, and I think most of the negative reviews were too lenient. Probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Each to his own I guess.

I'd imagine it would depend what your expectations were.

My expectations were actually incredibly low from all the negative reviews, and it still managed disappoint me.

For me it is one of a very rare group of movies that are so bad that I think about them for days afterwards marveling at how terrible they were.

In conclusion, I was not a fan.

Note: I thoroughly enjoyed the original, both when it first came out and from a recent rewatch.

This is what I love about this thread, everybody has varying tastes and reviews can be polarising. It makes for very interesting viewing if some people panned a film yet others loved it as you just don't know what to expect. It's also interesting that so many of us (myself included) give a film a score. Yet after reading some reviews I think to myself sometimes "if you hated it so much why did you still give it a 5/10"

On a side note recently watched Penguins of Madagascar, it was a lot better than expected. The Penguins as usual are always entertaining, the story is a bit crazy but if you have kids it's a fun film to watch with them. 6/10

@gehenna: ^I hear he's finished a draft of a sequel to Unbreakable.  I wonder if that's what you're referring to as the linkage in the last few seconds.  I haven't seen it yet so just speculating :)

Now I do like my M Night Shamalamadingdong movies but Split was a bit of a borefest for me and my partner. We enjoyed The Visit recently but I'd have to give Split a 4/10, and the tie in at the end, just weird.

My 2c re Independence Day-Resurgence.

My wife and I watched it about two weeks ago.

To be honest, I don't remember anything about it.

Which usually means it went in one eye and out the other.
