Well scratch my last comment for Halo, the bar went straight into the earth and doesn’t look like it’s coming back out.

Without spoiling it, they’ve gone and put a subplot genre in that really shouldn’t be there. The rumour that the slapped a generic sci-fi script against Halo is now very evident.

Godless (Netflix) - Western limited series.  Most enjoyable, great acting and stunning sets.  9/10

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

The Handmaid's Tale Season 3 9/10 DVD

The continuing saga of Gilead and the war waged on it by June played by Elizabeth Moss.

It is slow paced but incredibly atmospheric and Moss is just terrific. When she has it in for someone just one of her looks is enough to make them wither and die without her ever touching them.

1883 the TV series. Only watched the first episode but instantly hooked. Incredible cast, amazing cinematography, the entire 'vibe' is just perfect 10/10 for episode 1.

Probably even better than Yellowstone.  It gets better and better, amazing cast, with some clever twists and great story lines.  Do you know that hard arse James Dutton (Tim McGraw) and his equally hard arse wife Margaret (Faith Hill) are real life husband and wife?  It gets sad as all heck in places, and made me damp around the eyes more than once, but that's all I am going to say because I don't want to spoil it for you.

There's going to be a sequel, but if I am reading it right, it's called 1932 so it's 50 odd years in the future.  Plus we have the 6666 ranch series set at the same time period as Yellowstone, and they have started production of Yellowstone season 5.  May it never end.  I can't think of anything I've enjoyed better.

TVNZ has the series based on Graham Norton's book Holding available On Demand.  Even as an expat Brit I had trouble understanding the Cork accent in places, and the show verges on the bizarre at times, but worth watching.  Even more bizarre is Killing Even Season 4.  It got so 'out there' my missus and I were sort of glad it's all over.

We Own This City - 8/10

If you ride for The Wire get amongst it. I’m 3 episodes deep and getting my head around it, much like The Wire. It’s not as sweary as The Wire but lots of familiar faces and it’s back in Baltimore with bad cops. Really really good. David Simon does this sort of show very well. It’s a shame it’s only a mini-series.

Huge The Wire fan and really want to like this - but finding it jumps around a lot in time and that makes it hard to follow.

Like The Wire, we have trouble following some of the dialogue and slang - really need the subtitles on. However Neon (damn them) have a characteristically el cheapo crap app on my 2021 LG TV with no subtitles available. So I have to AirPlay it with subtitles from iPad to Apple TV which is not ideal.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I started watching The Pentaverate on Netflix NZ yesterday.

Long story short; if you like Mike Myers, you'll probably like this. If he grates your nerves, you'll make it through maybe 3 min.

There's some quite funny moments, but I like his childish and somewhat obvious humour, so it works for me.

Oh, and he plays about 15 of the main characters, so there's no escaping him.

Think Austin Powers side-story...maybe. Without Austin, Basil, Foxy etc. But with lots of other stereotypical characters  - i.e. Canadians (sorry, eh), Australian media magnate, etc.

I came across it for the first time last night while doing my occasional browse through the Google TV Drama 2022 to see what is worth looking out for.  I flick between the Google ribbon and IMDB to watch the trailers, and lasted barely ten seconds, yet alone three minutes.  Myers has fallen out so badly with Hollywood movie producers, it's a wonder Netflix took a chance with The Pentaverate.  There are a few articles like this one that suggest Netflix might have regretted working with him.  There are also a good few accounts of him being a jerk in real life.  As you have probably worked out, I really don't like him, post Wayne's World.

I was the same for the first couple of episodes. It’s a bit like The Wire in that it takes a few episodes to come together. Episode 3 brings the threads together and Episode 4 really picks up the pace. I think it’s worth it.

Love, Death and Robots - Season 3. With the lack of quality content on Netflix in general, and sci-fi in particular, I was really looking forward to it. I shouldn't have. I got through 5 episodes so far, and not one of them rises to the quality of even the worst episodes of seasons 1 and 2.

"Three Robots" - shallow and preachy.

"Bad Travelling" - a truly disappointing entry from David Fincher. Long, tedious and I have no idea how they managed to cram so many plot holes in such a short running time.

"Pulse of the Machine" - a total misfire and a waste of a great classic sci-fi idea.

"Night of the Mini Dead" - the shortest and by far the strongest entry. Worth a second and even third viewing just to admire the execution - even though it has nothing to say beyond that.

"Kill Team Kill" - if it's a satire, it's shallow, boring, and horribly unoriginal. If it's not a satire, I don't even know what it is.

Just finished Halo.  Despite its faults I liked it.  Esp the scenes that seemed to come straight from the game.

A couple of shows that the kids are loving (4 and 8)

  • Stillwater -about a panda giving life lessons
  • Guess How much I love you -based on the books
  • Cat in the hat -educational based on the book
  • Bluey -Australian series about some dogs.  Finally a show that shows dads in a positive light and not as a bumbling idiot.
  • Miraculous Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir - french series about a girl that can do stuff with ladybird powers or something
  • ask the storybots educational but kind of annoying
  • ada twist scientist - about a girl that uses science to solve problems
