Geektastic: Wife wanted to stop at McDonald's last night for ice cream. Walking back from Cuba St to CBD but don't know the street name of the Maccas.

Had to point out to staff that the bins were overflowing onto the floor. Got a typically millennial yeah later response, so we left.

Complain to the NZ head office, I used to work for Mc Donalds around 15 years ago. Even then is was really hit and miss how good the managers were. Some actually did a good job. Others simply reduced staff numbers, and exploited loopholes in the systems and processes. To make their "on paper" results look good, while actual service levels were terrible. Most common one was pressing the button to say that a drive thru order had been served the instant the customer had paid for the order. Even though the customer hadn't even been able to drive to the pickup window yet. But this slowed down the orders and meant more mistakes as the order would disappear off all of the screens that say what needs to go into each order.

Ironicly one of the Maccas stores that had terrible service back then is still really slow today. Staff levels would always be higher on days when they would be getting checked by head office. But they never found out what was going on as all of the managers were doing the same things. Pretty sure the store owner knew as well. (it was a franchised store). It eventually closed down presumably due to low sales. So I guess their penny pinching got them in the end.

Rats - because I don't want any rat problems around my house, I put out poison to kill them. But it means that my neighbours get free rat control at my expense. And because there is a primary school and bush nearby, there will always be rats in this area. As the council only rarely lays poison in the bush, and im pretty sure the school caretaker is too lazy to put poison around the school. They could put it under the prefab classrooms, so no risk of the kids finding and eating the poison.

People that shift left from their lane to the one that appears at an onramp well before the line between the line becomes dotted, so they are crossing over solid lines and a hash marked area to get into the freer flowing left lane, in front of people coming on at the onramp.

Had it happen today at the Ellerslie onramp. Just turn their indicator on and move left into a stream of traffic moving faster than them. Not even trying to accelerate up to speed at all. Get it often at onewa but none as bad as the numpty today.

The cat has heard you refer to it as a mouse and thinks "I can haz mowzburger?". It's only natural. All you need to do is re-educate the cat - tell it it's not really a mouse.

The number of 'broken' things on the internet.

EG today I posted to GZ from my phone. It decided I needed to review the FUG yet displayed no button for me to accept them and move on - just one of those odd 'place holder' image logo things with green mountains etc on it.

It's frustrating that mankind can achieve so much, yet reliable, always working properly internet browsing software does not seem to be one of them!

Living in the countryside, rats are a fact of life. We have bait stations around the house all year.

A couple of years ago, I had a very expensive repair to one of our cars when rats decided to huddle for warmth in the engine bay and, whilst doing so, chew through the wiring loom....! I check the bait stations monthly now and also have some of the CO2 powered traps in the out buildings where the corpses are less of a concern. I collect them and throw them where the hawks can see them and, since they are not poisoned, eat them.

It helps if you use the poison stations that hold the bait. Rats especially big ones may hoard baits they can carry away. I found a rat nest with about a dozen bait 'eggs' in our hay-shed as kid. The resident rat was still healthy enough to escape a terrier ...

Young people of today are no better or worse than the youth in your day.

Whereas the middle aged folks these days are far superior to the ones that were around when I was a kid. Back then, people in their 40s were grumpy, opinionated and thought they were always right. But now that I'm in my 40s, I am a completely reasonable, level-headed person.

Actually, since I turned 50, I've noticed a big decline in the quality people in their 40s.
