Handle9: We Own This City - 8/10

If you ride for The Wire get amongst it. I’m 3 episodes deep and getting my head around it, much like The Wire. It’s not as sweary as The Wire but lots of familiar faces and it’s back in Baltimore with bad cops. Really really good. David Simon does this sort of show very well. It’s a shame it’s only a mini-series.

Huge The Wire fan and really want to like this - but finding it jumps around a lot in time and that makes it hard to follow.

Like The Wire, we have trouble following some of the dialogue and slang - really need the subtitles on. However Neon (damn them) have a characteristically el cheapo crap app on my 2021 LG TV with no subtitles available. So I have to AirPlay it with subtitles from iPad to Apple TV which is not ideal.

Ive had The Wire available to watch for ages - i gather that its worth watching?

1883 the TV series. Only watched the first episode but instantly hooked. Incredible cast, amazing cinematography, the entire 'vibe' is just perfect 10/10 for episode 1.

Probably even better than Yellowstone.  It gets better and better, amazing cast, with some clever twists and great story lines.  Do you know that hard arse James Dutton (Tim McGraw) and his equally hard arse wife Margaret (Faith Hill) are real life husband and wife?  It gets sad as all heck in places, and made me damp around the eyes more than once, but that's all I am going to say because I don't want to spoil it for you.

There's going to be a sequel, but if I am reading it right, it's called 1932 so it's 50 odd years in the future.  Plus we have the 6666 ranch series set at the same time period as Yellowstone, and they have started production of Yellowstone season 5.  May it never end.  I can't think of anything I've enjoyed better.

TVNZ has the series based on Graham Norton's book Holding available On Demand.  Even as an expat Brit I had trouble understanding the Cork accent in places, and the show verges on the bizarre at times, but worth watching.  Even more bizarre is Killing Even Season 4.  It got so 'out there' my missus and I were sort of glad it's all over.

We enjoyed Yellowstone, might have to give 1883 a try.

Kookoo: Love, Death and Robots - Season 3. With the lack of quality content on Netflix in general, and sci-fi in particular, I was really looking forward to it. I shouldn't have. I got through 5 episodes so far, and not one of them rises to the quality of even the worst episodes of seasons 1 and 2.

damn that's disappointing to hear, I really liked s1/2 as well

will give it a crack in bed tonight

Ok, so, I just finished the season, and my feeling is that the last 4 episodes were leaps and bounds above the first 5. Sure, some story lines are predictable, but the execution is near-flawless and the storytelling top notch. It's got everything form Asimov-like classical sci-fi to Lovecraftian horror, and all done extremely well.

The Terror BBCIPlayer 7.5/10

Set in the mid 1800's it's a fictionalized account of an actual voyage by 2 ships from England trying to find the Northwest passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific. They become trapped in pack ice and, after accidentally killing an Inuit, things go from bad to worse.

It's a mixture of drama, a little bit of horror and a sprinkling of the supernatural.

Worth a watch.

There is also a second series which, like American Horror Story, is a complete different storyline altogether.

I've watched a couple of single seasons of shows recently.

Finished The Pentaverate. I actually loved and hated it all at the same time. Had some WT(actual) moments, while also remaining firmly Mike Myers. The breakaway scenes to the Netflix exec were (in my opinion) quite funny. And the opening credits with Jeremy Irons were funnyish too. 5/10

Also watched the remainder of Halo. The more game-like scenes were better, but it nearly lost me in the middle. 5/10

I agree, worth watching. I got into it about 2011, 2012, so about 10 years after it was made. Had no idea what to expect going in, had to use the subtitles for first few episodes at least.

Worth sticking with it.

My thoughts exactly. Whereas I couldn't stick with or finish season 2, by contrast I couldn't keep my eyes off season 1 and have gone back and watched different episodes 3 or 4 times. Casting was superb.

Just finished the third (and most likely final) season of Mr Inbetween.

Geez, what a ride. One of the best TV shows I can recall watching in recent years. Great story, script writing and acting. I'm unsure how this has flown under the radar for most folks, although it is a tad brutal at times.

Absolutely love this series, have recommended it to quite a few people now and they were instantly hooked.

It's quite controversial so I wondered if that had something to do with it not being 'out there'

It's gained quite big online fan base and ive watched quite a few of the cast interviews, they had a very hard time getting it funded.. and they couldn't thank FX enough for 'having the guts' to make the show.

Something interesting, the lead Scott Ryan [Ray Shoesmith] has zero acting experience [aside from his short film he made back in 2000] and man does he do a great job of it.

I agree, Scott Ryan nailed it. He's very charismatic in the role, and that wolf's grin of his is something else!

Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix. Enjoying it so far, casting is pretty decent.

How I met your Father. We are almost at the end of season 1, took me a while to warm to it, but I am enjoying it mostly.

Will probably watch S2

Loved Lincoln Lawyer. Its very much like Bosch in how it plays. I would still give Bosch an extra point.
