So for the people who actually have a Premium subscription (paid or otherwise) is it worth is? Is it actually "premium" content behind the paywall, or mostly just repeated stories from other news sources?

To add to that. Is the premium content any better than what they were serving up previously. I'm not sure I'd have called any of it premium.

They've updated the paywall implementation which breaks most extensions or scripts - this is still really bad, albeit it takes 15 seconds instead of 10 seconds to do it unlike before.

Took me 16 seconds.

There is good business news, long-form stuff and political analysis produced by NZ Herald journalists behind the paywall, as well as some syndicated stuff. I actually value the syndicated stories too. Also a few articles I have no interest in reading

I get print NZ Herald and Bay of Plenty times.   A month ago I received this

"As you know, you are entitled to access this content as part of your current print subscription. On launch day you’ll receive an email containing information on how to unlock your account so you can start reading."

Nothing arrived.   Today I get email saying as I am a print subscriber I can access NZ Herald premium content for special price of $3.30 a week for as long as I am print subscriber instead of usual $5.

I guess I was wrong thinking it would be free for print subscribers from the earlier email.  Well no thanks I wont pay so will get news elsewhere

This is going to become a whack-a-mole game, at least for the three months until the Herald goes bust. Yesterday an easy trick to avoid the paywall was turned off, so they must be getting the message somewhere. So today another trick has been updated and we're back to where we were. The only way they are going to be able to stop this is to make the necessary investment and build a proper server-side paywall like they should have done in the first place. Even then I have my doubts. People are just having too much fun with this.

quickymart:...is it worth it?...

Surprisingly easy process to get an existing print subscription upgraded to provide online access to premium content.

I now paid a few cents more and can continue to read world / local news from a kiwi perspective.

I also subscribe to a couple of other news services as I want choice in my news sources. For instance, Geekzone!

From the FAQ on https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12226437

2. Do print subscribers have access to Premium?

Our five-, six- and seven-day NZ Herald and regional newspaper subscribers have automatic, free access to Premium. Those with weekend or part-week newspaper subscriptions receive a discount.

Anyone taking bets on how long it will last?

I began to consider a subscription last week. Decided not to for the moment.

$2.50 per week is reasonably priced. At the same time - that's approximately what I'm paying for Netflix.

Both stuff and NZHerald annoy me with the 15 second (!) preroll ads on video so I almost never watch video on those platforms. Video play time is often equal to the ad play time. Remove that and it might make more sense for me. I'd prefer to see the video content aggregated to a single page option also.

Even with that - they probably won't get me until it's bundled with some other service I already use maybe spark and become hooked enough to subscribe in future.

Even with all that it's like 'almost' and then too high to make it a no brainer for a personal sub for me today. That could change. It's close

Yeah, I think $2.50 kind of sounds reasonable but the $5 they want to charge after the 8 weeks is not.

Really? Can you find anything else that makes you laugh as much as what NZHerald considers "premium" content, for anywhere near 70c a day!?

I really wish they would put the National Party spokesman (Mike Hosking) behind their paywall.

This is a good example of why NZ Herald is not getting $5 per week from me (or even $2.50 pw for that matter).
