Silicon Valley (Neon) - 6/10

I saw a funny clip from the show on my FB feed, so I decided to belatedly watch the show as I have a Neon sub for House of the Dragon.

It's okay, but it isn't rip-roaringly funny to me.  I get the jokes, but I guess the style isn't really my thing.  Individually I find the cast funny - TJ Miller was great in Deadpool, Kumail Nanjiani is good, Zach Woods was great in In the Loop, and the off-beat performances of the actors who play Peter Gregory and Gavin Belson are pretty good.  So maybe it's the Mike Judge thing. I know Office Space is supposed to be this big thing, but I watched and thought it was okay, but not worthy of the reverence that many people attach to it.

I've nearly finished season 1 (I like shows that have shorter seasons), and will see how it goes.

Really enjoying ' Resident Alien ' just got the last 3 episodes to watch in S2.{2022}... the Americans are great at making Comedy-Dramas.

A crash-landed alien takes on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor and slowly begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his secret mission on Earth.

I've been watching Kleo on Netflix. A black humor drama/comedy set in the Germany late 80's.
Kleo is an East German Assassin crosses the Berlin wall and kills her target in a West Belin nightclub. She is then arrested upon return to East Germany and sent to prison.

The show focuses on what happens to her after that and why see was arrested.
Kleo is a very skilled killer and a little insane.

Great acting and sets. Also I liked the art direction.
Lots of black humor moments in the show as well.

Highly recommended.

Watched that immediately that it was released (seems a long time ago, but is probably only a few months ago).

Wife and I really enjoyed it.

On another note: Just finished two series

Welcome to Wrexham. Season 1 ended with a bang. What agreat series that was...was not expecting it to be so compelling. 10/10

Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. Lavish sets, great CGI. Massive budget. Slow as a wet week. 6/10

I'm now onto the penultimate episode of House of Dragons. It's been a bit slow at times, but it has more moments of greatness than the Rings series did. 8/10

Star Wars Andor. The final s1 ep6 was intense. The first two episodes were good but the new sets and shots for those initially felt too familiar somehow. All forgiven by ep3. After ep6 I watched Rogue One the movie - it's now a Cassian Andor story all the way through.

Disappointed with the 2nd 1/2 of season 2 so far. Kinda lost a bit of it's quirkiness or maybe just worn thin a wee bit.

The Winchesters. Supernatural with a teenage vibe to it.

Quantum Leap 2022. Not sure how I feel about this yet since I fondly remember the original.

Winchesters is the "Supernatural" series prequel is it not?

I haven't and don't think I want to see the new Quantum Leap. I loved the original so much as a younger person. I think I would have a hard time disconnecting my nostalgic self from the series.

I endured She Hulk to its conclusion today over lunch.

I don't want to do that again. I only kept going because so much of the MCU is tied into the TV series that you may (or may not) get a bit lost as films come out if you don't keep up with it all.

Suffice to say, I won't revisit this show and if there's a new season, I won't watch it. 3/10

I also started watching Hitmen starring Sue Perkins and Mel Geidroyc last night. Dark English comedy about two contract killers who are also besties. They have a crappy van and little to no life outside being killers.

So far so good - quirky, amusing and sometimes a bit shocking.

Yeah first season covers a year in story arc quarters.  2nd season covers 4 years.

9/10 Star Wars: Andor is a great surprise. Compared with other series in that universe, there is a high level of tension which is maintained very well. The negatives include the main actor having the emotional range of a brick. But that has also turned out to be a positive when the sparse sets match Cassian Andor’s isolation and dislocation.

2/10 Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is also a great surprise but for many bad reasons. The primary reason that it fails is that Amazon did not obtain the rights to tell the complete story. Instead they’ve created a patchwork of muddled and inconsistent timelines, senseless and overwrought set-piece action, layered between terrible dialogue delivered with very average acting. It is much worse than Amazon’s Wheel of Time adaptation but shares the same pointless changes to the meaning, power and use of magical power. The only positive for me is that Amazon Studios have made it easy to drop my Amazon Prime subscription.
