This really made me smile and not a lot does anymore. She poured a religious sauce over it at the end, but if that's what it takes for someone to step up and make a real difference, then I can live with it. I applaud her for having the courage to do what she did. Good on her and good on her god.

Agreeing a six-week home exchange with a couple in beautiful Rouen, Normandy, in 2023. Purely by coincidence, it happens to be during the Rugby World Cup in France.

Prior to COVID we did 12 home exchanges, mainly in the N Hemisphere, in four years. We had to cancel two exchanges in 2020 due to COVID and since then the system has effectively been dead, until recently. Things have picked up in recent weeks and we now have eight weeks in Hove, UK, coming up in March-April, then Rouen later in the year.

It's only a pity they're a long way off and we just hope nothing COV-ish comes up to put a Spaniard in the works. Ah - hang on - maybe that wouldn't be so bad.

Wood be great outside a restaurant - then they could put up a sign saying 'we cater for all pallets'.

Primary school around the corner: Kids on a walking outing (presumably to the local park), going past my driveway. My small fluffy dog runs out to the fence to shout at them (bark, bark) as they pass. Of course, being Primary aged kids they can't resist peering through the gaps in the fence to see what kind of menacing beast they're being barked at by. Upon seeing a small black and white fluffball, there's giggles and squeaks and exclamations of "It's a teddy bear!" etc.

Made me smile

I have come across some supermarket checkout operators who would struggle with that. 😀

I used the - so called - 9€ ticket for the first time today. The ticket costs only 9€ per month from June-August and entitles the holder to unlimited use of all public transport, rail and bus, on local and regional services throughout Germany. Only long-distance services are excluded.

- NET: FTTH & VDSL, OPNsense, 10G backbone, GWN APs
- SRV: 12 RU HA server cluster, 0.1 PB storage on premise
- IoT:   thread, zigbee, tasmota, BidCoS, LoRa, WX suite, IR
- 3D:    two 3D printers, 3D scanner, CNC router, laser cutter

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Wow...why can’t they do that here. Bet that would get people on public transport.

Well, it is a kind of tax rebate for all citizens. Due to the Ukraine crisis, the price of fuel has risen so much that the state is making a kind of repayment in this way, primarily for commuters, through the likewise increased tax revenue on fuel (of course also in the hope that one or the other will think about using public transport in the course of climate policy).

Sounds like a great way to incentivise use of public transport, assuming you have some that works near you, it's addressing the fuel price issue while also nudging people towards a better way of doing things.

Who cares what others think? :)

A vertical drop slide like the one that used to be at Capital E in Wellington would also be fun but more discrete without the need for the exterior pipe.
