2/10 Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is also a great surprise but for many bad reasons. The primary reason that it fails is that Amazon did not obtain the rights to tell the complete story. Instead they’ve created a patchwork of muddled and inconsistent timelines, senseless and overwrought set-piece action, layered between terrible dialogue delivered with very average acting. It is much worse than Amazon’s Wheel of Time adaptation but shares the same pointless changes to the meaning, power and use of magical power. The only positive for me is that Amazon Studios have made it easy to drop my Amazon Prime subscription.

LoTR: RoP was ok but, dear $deity it was slow going. And called it to wife: they are going to spend the whole season and not have the "Rings of Power" made until the last five minutes of the last episode.

Talk about failing to satisfy.

We have stopped watching LOTR: RoP for all above reasons.

Love Andor.

Love Interview with a Vampire so far.

Awaiting new seasons of:
The Book of Boba Fett
Good Omens
The Mandalorian
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Reacher
The Wheel of Time

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

On that basis...I'd say it was a raging success and ultimately they didn't fail to satisfy.

You called it. They provided. Win/win.

Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. I've watched maybe three episodes so far and absolutely loving it. To me this better represents the complexity of the characters and relationships compared to other treatments for kids or heroics. I see Peter Tolkien is credited as we know, he has to approve basically everything and is said to be somewhat insistent and particular on following and integrity. It has been some time since I read The Silmarillion. To my mind this series is consistent with that book.

Really enjoyed Rings of Power - terrific cast and some the tone just feels right.

I think you will find its Simon, He is Chris Tolkien's son and JRR's grandson

But in terms of approval, when the rights are sold the rights are sold,

Chris Tolkien hated Peter Jackson's films but had no ability to influence them,

Amazon paid crazy money ($250 million USD)  for the rights and that sort of money gives you total creative control (within the rails of your purchase), certainly not subject to any ancestral "approvals"

BUT, they only have certain development rights, not carte blanc, this article identifies what are within and what are outside Amazon's scope

https://lrmonline.com/news/what-material-does-amazon-have-the-rights-to-for-the-rings-of-power-answered/

So what did Amazon buy? “We have the rights solely to The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King, the appendices, and The Hobbit,”

Payn says. “And that is it. We do not have the rights to The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, The History of Middle-earth, or any of those other books.”

I endured She Hulk to its conclusion today over lunch.

I don't want to do that again. I only kept going because so much of the MCU is tied into the TV series that you may (or may not) get a bit lost as films come out if you don't keep up with it all.

Suffice to say, I won't revisit this show and if there's a new season, I won't watch it. 3/10

I'd give it 7/10 - just great fun and you can't take it too seriously.

VS Ms Marvel is a 9/10 and a welcome boost to the Marvel Universe

Oh, believe me - I didn't take it seriously.

I just found it to be a bad take all-round. It tried to be Ally McBeal, rolled into the Marvel Universe, but it just fell flat for me. And apparently it also fell flat for thousands of others around the world.

BUT - for those that enjoyed it, I am happy. We don't all have the same tastes.

Just happened to see this tonight. If you’re roughly in the right demographic (I’m into my eighth decade) you may like to preload a few beers or wines, turn up the volume and watch this CCR show on NF - part doco, part concert. Don’t worry about the aspect ratio and the poor resolution - just enjoy the great music.

Seen “Travelin' Band: Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall” on Netflix yet?

Doctor Who : The Power of the Doctor - yeah nah.

As popular as he was, I would rather have seen a companion as the next Doctor.

I'm watching The Peripheral with Chloe Moretz about a VR type of neural device that seems to also allow someone to send their consciousness into a body in the future.  Cool premise and ok so far, but also some big plot holes to be filled. But it's only 2 episodes in.

Only for three episodes, then Ncuti Gatwa will take over as Doctor.

I didn't know this existed. I'll give it a look, but am a little dubious about "reinventions".

I've started watching episode 1 of the third? season of For All Mankind.

It's skipped forward about a decade. Some characters have aged considerably, while others haven't really.

They don't explain some things, but then they probably don't need to. I like the montage at the start that covers the political spectrum and societal changes.

half way through the first episode and it feels like familiar territory - but it's pretty comfortable familiarity.

Just finished This England and loved it.  It follows the UK government's early days of dealing with the pandemic and is really quite interesting.  It has also left me thinking about the power of media, because after watching the series both my wife and I were thinking Boris did an OK job and should be PM again.  It also made out Dominic Cummings to be an evil, entitled liar.  We had to consciously remind ourselves that this was fiction based on reality, and the characters were as good or bad as the director made them appear.
