neb: Glad(tm) Wavetop(tm) rubbish bags. Sane rubbish bags have handles that you can use to lift them out of the rubbish bin, tie them closed, and carry them to whatever waste bin you use. These marvels of Glad(tm) design braindamage have four thin little plastic flaps that (a) you can't use to lift the bag (b) you can't use to tie it shut, and (c) you can't use to carry it to the waste bin. How can they design something so bad that it fails in not just one but all three of the things it's supposed to do? And yes, I know there are ones that are properly designed, I only got these ones because the regular twin-pack ones were out of stock and I didn't think to check that the single pack of the same size was a totally different design.

I have several 14l or so pedal bins around the house to put things into like opened cat food pouches etc. Previously I got free bags with my shopping at the supermarket that fitted in like a dream.

Now, I cannot locate anything that I can buy to put in them, so have been using without a bag and having to wash out the bucket all the time, and deal with stuff sticking to it and not being able to just carry a bag outside.

Cant find anything to buy to put in it. Seems that they only want to do giant ones for the knee high bins. Fffffffff may have to just get bigger bins that will just result in me wasting a larger plastic bag each week.

Same problem, I use the M size bags which are about two thirds bigger than the bin but it's either that or nothing.

The supermarket bags were actually the perfect size for the bin and they had carry handles you could tie. Given the number of bins out there that perfectly fit them, you'd think someone would have made replacements that you could buy. Or perhaps it's exactly the fact that they'd be taking the place of supermarket bags that means no manufacturer will touch them.

Same thing here. The supermarket bags were perfect for that size bin, and a bigger bin won't fit in the cupboard under the sink so would just use up more room somewhere else. Sigh.

Have you tried the 18l S size bag (460 x 530mm)? The market for bin liners now seems to be compostable corn starch bags. We have a larger bin in the pantry. Anything likely to smell before that gets full goes into a dog poo bag.

Before the tshirt bags were banned I bought a box of 2000 of them for about $50 online for this exact reason.  When I run out in 215 years time, I'll buy a box online from an international seller.

Still can't understand that. I couldn't find a study showing that supermarket bags were one use only. I always used them to a) carry other stuff or b) rubbish bags.

Now you have to buy plastic bags to do the same... Sure, some may be recycled plastic but nothing prevents supermarket bags from being made from recycled plastic either.

I don't suppose anyone brews their own coffee at home and puts it in a thermos these days? Am I betraying my age?

I remember as a sales rep a long time ago, sitting in my car in a park, pulling out my packed lunch (in a lunch box) and grabbing my Thermos of coffee and having a lovely lunch!

Memory is a wonderfully selective thing, though. Those "lovely" lunches were a somewhat lonely existence.

There is something ironic in banning single-use plastic bags but then creating about a billion times that impact in single-use medical supplies to save the human race from the pandemic which has the opposite effect on global ecological impact :)

Hot Choc doesn't really travel that well, and you need to know you want one in advance.

WyleECoyoteNZ:

Is there medium, everyone else's large ?

For what's it's worth, a large flat white from the Mojo at work is $5.80.

In a moment of weakness last week I had a grande caramel macchiato from Starbucks and that was $7.50! The largest size, the next one up from the one I had was $8.20!

Yes I have to say, their medium was very generous.

I just think the cost of hot drinks is stupid these days.  I have dropped from perhaps 2-3 a week to 1 or 2 every few months and even then it's probably only when we are at a cafe for brunch mostly.

The Bunnings across the road is pretty decently priced and do decent drinks.

I'd love to see what you're talking about but there doesn't seem to be a single picture of these things on the Web!

I assume you mean of the flaps, since there are plenty of pictures of the bags themselves. ...

Plenty of pictures of flaps on the web as well, you just gotta know where to look.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

TV 3 has the predicted temperature scrolling along the bottom of the screen in the morning. Today predicted for Christchurch 19, Dunedin 17. When the weather bit comes on we are told Christchurch will be 11 (Metservice says 12) and Dunedin about the same 11.

Basically don't trust TV3 for information about weather as a while back they had on the evening weather, the same numbers for that day's temperature for 4 days in a row. The REAL temperatures were nothing like what they were saying they had been.

I do.  I bought a Thermos lunch box and it came with a matching thermos. I have to have decaf, so I grind some beans at home at home and we have nice big perk that does a batch that will last me the day.  Great for long road trips too.

I still make a thermos of coffee to take with me during a round of golf in winter. The looks I get from my playing partners when its cold and wet and I pour myself a piping hot coffee on the 12th tee is priceless.
