Rikkitic:
Maybe we can beg ABC to start a New Zealand segment.
The same ABC that pulled out of Pacific Island broadcasting, when it was a vital service that those islands relied on for information in the event of extreme weather and so on? Doubtful.
@RustyViewer I've edited your post. This is not a political discussion. I have blocked you from posting in this thread now.

https://archive.ph/abP58 >> the Herald has quite a good piece today on all the media happenings this week - and there definitely are lots of them (including Newshub).
Linuxluver: I haven't watched them since John Key's mate got rid of John Campbell.
Campbell is still on TVNZ.

NZME has done it profitably. Others should be able to too.
NZME's radio audience is rapidly aging and that is going to become a problem for them in the next five to ten years.
Having said that, it sounds like the paywall on their online content is starting to generate a decent amount of revenue. We may be at a turning point where consumers are starting to accept that the free to air model is dead and they are going to have to start paying for their news.

Though there is some irony in the fact that two posts above yours is a "paywall bypass" link to NZ Herald.
I can't speak for everyone, but I do feel like paying for news whether that be through taxation or subscriptions or some combination of both is fair, provided that news is quality. That Buzzfeed of all things for example could put out some incredible investigative journalism pieces does suggest that maybe "clickbait" and "listicles" could play a part in financing hard-hitting news and investigations (as long as you can shove the junk to the side!)
I don't agree with these "bargaining codes" like Australia and Canada implemented, New Zealand was considering, and Sky News Australia's head flew over to pitch at Luxon. They give an unfair advantage to large, established news organisations, and make it harder for new entrants to get into the market even with a better product.

A big part of NZME's profitability is the success of its "OneRoof" real estate operation, so they are also dependent on a continuing Auckland real estate boom. If the RBNZ maintains its steely-eyed fix on inflation reduction, and the government makes good on its stated objective of sharply turning down the incoming migration flows, OneRoof might not be such a good revenue stream

The other concern I have is that people are going to get 'subscription fatigue', similar to what is happening in the streaming television space. A lot of people will opt to subscribe to an NZME or Stuff product, but their budget won't stretch to also pay for the arguably superior product offered by Newsroom.

Agreed - I think that it's likely that aggregators such as Apple News are going to end up playing a part here, but I'm not sure how to build in guardrails to prevent companies the size of News Corp using these arrangements as a way to lock out fledgeling competitors.

Nothing compared to your cheap shots. Is this kind of thing not beneath you? There is no Clockwork Orange pinning your eyes open before the TV. Go look at something else and spare us your low class sniping!

Come on, he's allowed to express his opinion. An opinion shared by among others, Helen Clarke who described John Campbell as a "creep". I happen to agree with her too.

Guess what? So am I?
Beyond that I don't care what you or Helen Clarke think. Go tell it to the clouds.

Neither Mr. Seven Houses nor his support base will stand for house price drops. OneRoof will be fine.

But you’re not just expressing an opinion. You are attacking a fellow GZer, which is probably against the FUGs. Play the ball, not the man.
