This is my trusty 2.8" Huawei Ideos... It runs Android 2.2, but as you can see when I want to type anything - the keyboard uses almost all the screen real estate!

I need an Android Tablet so I can show my friends that there are more "geek friendly" tablets than the all famous fruit!

I really want this as I think my current "tablet" (alright, it's a bit small, as it's an iPod Touch but whatever) is about to be chucked in the bin.
It's about three years old now, a 8GB second gen. I wouldn't care much but...

The metal around the lock button has been smashed in, so you can't use it. That means no screenshots, no resetting when it screws up as Apple products always do and no locking. Instead, each time I have to wait for a minute for it to autolock.

That lock button thing? Yeah? It also means no jail breaking. I have yet to find a jailbreak option that will work for 4.1+ that doesn't require you to reset the device.

The major dents in the back probably aren't too good for it.

There's a 50% chance it'll actually connect to my laptop and I can't sync too much at a time otherwise it disconnects halfway through... D:

If it's connected to WiFi, the longest I've ever seen it last recently is about an hour (apparently lending it to your younger brother means that he will leave it on charge for a week straight and apparently that's not good for it. /sarcasm)

~2-3GB is software updates alone.

I'm not sure how well you can see that but there's the smashed top button...

(also, adding insult to injury it was sent in to be fixed and ended up being replaced Oct. '09 because of a broken top button, though that was manufacturers fault. I swear these things hate my guts...)

[edit because ahurhurhur I managed to put in the image twice. Smaaaaaaaaaaart.. and then I screwed up the numbering. *facepalm*]

Moses was given 4 tablets (2 to replace the original 2 when he broke their displays, even though they were made of GraniteGlass).

I have a lot of catching up to do, but I don't enjoy mountaineering. Or chiseling.

Hi All,

This is what I have got .... looks quite impressive as it was bought 6 months ago and cost around 400 mark.

Why do i need the acer tablet... well... well.. well.. as most of the geeks here I am after the latest toy which usually goes to the hand of my 2 year old who can by the way, unhook the ipod from charger, turn it on, flick the screens till she finds a game she like and then away she goes,,,
If she leaves the tablet or the ipod it goes to my middle 8 years old who takes her time trying things she has no clue on...
If then I may think that I will get a chance it is time for my eldest daughter to have a go...

needless to say in a house of 4 women and lone geek i need a toy of my own

Any way would be good to have a gadget which can do GPS so there is one less box to take into the car..

If I had an Acer Iconia A500, I would retire my trusty 8-year old Acer Travelmate, and say get lost to Bill Gates.
Then I could salute Linus Torvalds and test some of the new mapping apps that I've been dreaming about.

Hi Mauricio,

I am currently working on an IBM ThinkPad... this Acer Iconia A500 sounds like an ideal addition,
especially when travelling! Not sure if one can use Word on it though? In any case, what an exciting
little gadget!

Well I have iPad, iPodTouch, and a Kindle as mobile devices. I've always used Macs, I like the Linux virtual machines I have, dislike Windows, and would rather like to see what a different OS can do. I'm curious. And I love gadgets.

Im a poor student and would find one of these great in boring lectures. Plus these look awesome and I'm sick of hearing about awesome apple is! But i find them kind of boring not like this exciting bad boy powered by the great Nvidia!

Thanks for the opportunity to enter your competition for such a cool prize. You have soom very cool members out there in the Geekzone community - who else would come up with something as thoughtful as the offer of an additional 32GB micro SD card to add to the prize giveaway - Exceptionally Cool.

I am looking to try my hand at two things in the near future - one online investment trading and also I am looking for an interface tablet style that I can design on as I have skills in manufacturing jewellery and garden design. I'm hoping this sort of tablet would be up to this kind of job and even if it isn't but supports online books alongside its standard functions then I think it would be a great prize to receive.
