Bung: IIRC the rumour was that Ford Cortinas only had about 6 different keys. There were numerous stories of people taking the wrong car home from the supermarket. English cars usually had the key number marked on the ignition switch. Some garages would have large key panels with about 20 keys of each combination. It was obvious that keys weren't unique.

Some time ago when a neighbour locked themselves out and had to call a locksmith, who immediately produced a key and opened the door for them, the locksmith said there were only seven types of warded house keys in use in NZ and it was just a case of pulling out the right one to get in. This explains why I was able to use one of the keys from Father Neb's accumulation to open a basement lock for which the original key had been lost.

Sounds like an outstanding reason to order your house locks from overseas.

In the days when you could leave your door unlocked, house keys for back doors were often Legge and they came numbered. So if you lost your key, you could go to a hardware store and ask for a Legge 3 or 10 etc which were hanging in numbered rows, no need to cut one. Real Estate agents would carry a set of Legges and some would have one key filed down that would open any lock number to save carrying a set of usually 10.

Following our own Ruth Croft at the Western States 100mile race. Through 55miles at the Michigan Bluff aid station she's just opened up a 4min lead over her team mate Emily Hawgood.

Those were the old-style warded locks which probably haven't been used since the 1970s or 1980s...

Organising our house move down south. We’ve always wanted to be down there but work kept us around Wellington.

It feels really good to be putting into action such a long held goal.

Seeing this decision by the Supreme Court.

Hopefully they'll begin to apply it to other similar "charities" ahem *destiny* ahem...

That Paul Coll and Joelle King are in NZ and playing in a NZ Tournament this weekend, and that it's on Free to Air Television.

Paul Coll for any who aren't aware, is NZ's top Squash player, was recently World Number 1. Joelle King is NZ's top female player, with a current world ranking of 4th and Career-high of 3 in the world.

Many of NZ's top players will be playing and it should be an excellent display in case anyone has any passing interest.  Esp Finals.

For the first time since July last year, where I tore my calf a day before a family skiing holiday, which then led into a lockdown, I played competitive squash last night. I was the lowest-ranked player on my team (ring in), and comfortably beat someone several hundred points higher than me.

I am not actually too sore today either, though my fitness needs serious work!

Every now and then when I’m making the most of my hour long lunch breaks and going for a walk in town there’s a period where the cars in the immediate area don’t consist of noisy bogans or diesels.

It’s bliss to imagine one day that silence will be the norm.

This is only going to improve over time with the adoption of EV types and more efficient cars.

My daughter and I got quite a fright the other when an EV at dusk came racing around a corner with it's lights off. Clearly didn't see us, we had to race to get out of the way. I am not sure they would have stopped in time, and we didn't really clearly hear it coming.

I was really glad I went with her.

This seems very relevant...

"Substantially self-regarding purposes should not, in principle, be charitable," the court's summary read.

How much better TVNZ online has gotten in terms of quality and usability.  Impressive.

Living in a country where the entire eyeglass industry isn't controlled by Luxxotica and you can go out and buy replacement glasses for less than the cost of the bus from the airport if you've left yours at home.
