Tinkerisk Jr. has his last oral school-leaving examination right now. He has already passed in general, it's just a matter of fulfilling the formal obligation - biology. :-)

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
Doing a bit of retro gaming - Boulderdash on a C64 emulator at the moment.
Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?
I started involuntarily whistling the title screen music upon reading that :)

Yup. Passed and got an even better grade in the process. I haven't seen him since yesterday ... after three months of permanent preparation and exam stress, they're all partying somewhere. But I'll catch him for tonight and a table has been booked at the restaurant.

Oh, you're wondering about an oral exam? The performance records for the university entrance qualification are split with us. The grades in the individual subjects are made up of the preliminary achievements of the last half year, the written and the oral examinations. Depending on the focus, these are (in his case) mathematics, English, French, German, physics, biology, social sciences and history. In my case, I vaguely remember Latin as well. The good old oral exam in front of the exam committee is supposed to ensure, according to old custom, that you haven't copied or read from your smartphone and to test your stress resistance. ;-)

Oh, the last three are easy:
German: Guten Morgen!
French: Je me rends.
English: ... damn cheese-eating surrender monkeys...

Latin: „Caesar consilio navigat.“ German: „Cäsar fährt Rat.“ more precise: „Cäsar fährt Fahrrad.“ ;-)

Replaced the old laser printer with one with EcoTank and ink BOTTLES -> extremely power efficient, super fast wake-up for printing (6s), little plastic waste and unbeatable low printing costs. Print quality is not as sharp a laser printer but sufficient for daily use. I control it via CUPS as network printer for all network clients.

Congratulations. That must be hell having to speak your answers when your insides are wobbling jelly. Can’t think of anything worse, written exams are bad enough. Well earned.
Ive done a couple of post graduate profession exams that had vivas.
The biggest issue is that we dont normally have them as part of normal exams at highschool or university so fear of something new is an issue. The answer of course is to practice practise practise with someone vivaing you.
One advantage of them is that you can show a thought process and a logical way of appoaching the question which in professional exams has a value even if you dont know the exact perfect answer. Examiners can be supportive an rephrase the questions in a different way to show you do actually know the answer.
My son passed his Restricted driving test this morning.
The look of sheer relief and joy on his face was priceless.

Congratulations to him... a ticket to freedom.
Assuming he's late teens/early twenties, that demographic is often tempted to breach their restricted conditions.
If you feel your son might be a candidate for this advise him that there is a good chance that insurance will be void if the does this. (This was a better deterrent for our son than the potential fine, although he did still do it a few times.)
