Handsomedan:

My son passed his Restricted driving test this morning.

The look of sheer relief and joy on his face was priceless.

Congratulations to him... a ticket to freedom.

Assuming he's late teens/early twenties, that demographic is often tempted to breach their restricted conditions.

If you feel your son might be a candidate for this advise him that there is a good chance that insurance will be void if the does this.  (This was a better deterrent for our son than the potential fine, although he did still do it a few times.)

He's 17. First thing we said to him when we bought the car - we own the car, we make the rules, we can take the car away.

We also went to great pains to reinforce that insurance is void if you breach your licence conditions, so don't take passengers, don't drive after 10pm and don't drink.

But most of all, have fun, safely

We booked flights home for Christmas last night. They were painfully expensive but we've locked them in now. Everyone is very happy.

Thanks, it'll be nice to be home after 3 years. We showed the kids the booking this morning and they were bouncing around the lounge.

We had some family stop over last week on their way to Europe which was also great.

Before you go, consider scanning through the thread about travel under Covid restrictions for advice on things to watch out for, e.g. take NZ-approved RAT tests with you in case there's a requirement to test before returning.

I’m not sure why I’d need NZ approved tests to return to Dubai?

I’ve travelled reasonably widely in the last 12 months so I’m familiar with the variable feast of travel regulations and where to get information.

The fact that (thanks to Stranger Things) a lot of kids that have been wearing Metallica shirts have now heard at least one of their songs.

The unfortunate thing is of course, that it'll now be forever the Eddie Munson Song...

Yes, I initially thought someone posting didn't read the forums listings but one is selling a 2015, another is wanting a 2018...

Matter is just around the corner and should be available cheaply in October.

I just learned by accident that if your iPhone rings and you hit the Mute key on your Mac keyboard, it silences the phone. I'm guessing they have to be on the same Apple account or something, but it was still a neat/unexpected feature that I thought I should share :)

My son turned 13 yesterday (man where did that time go!?) , my 10-year-old daughter decorated his (pavlova) cake, with blue cream (ocean) and an axolotl made of lollies in an aquarium type arrangement. It was fantastic.
