RollyShed:

TV 3 has the predicted temperature scrolling along the bottom of the screen in the morning. Today predicted for Christchurch 19, Dunedin 17. When the weather bit comes on we are told Christchurch will be 11 (Metservice says 12) and Dunedin about the same 11.

My eagle-eyed wife noticed this, this morning.

I have my eyes on the makita coffee maker if I ever start to be away from civilization again, Fingers crossed that never happens.

Hell by then I may have an EV with a socket in it that I can just plug in a nespresso machine while parked which is even better.

Thermos use for drink. Years ago when sea kayaking, at lunchtime, I'd see if I could light my Primus stove (yes, meths preheat needed) and have the water boiling before the others had got the tops off their Thermoses.

Same thing here. The supermarket bags were perfect for that size bin, and a bigger bin won't fit in the cupboard under the sink so would just use up more room somewhere else. Sigh.

Still can't understand that. I couldn't find a study showing that supermarket bags were one use only. I always used them to a) carry other stuff or b) rubbish bags.

Now you have to buy plastic bags to do the same... Sure, some may be recycled plastic but nothing prevents supermarket bags from being made from recycled plastic either.

At risk of upsetting BDFL, I'll disagree on that point.

I would have obtained about 10 shopping bags per week from the SM but I only use one per week to line my bin. My bin is plastic so why do I even line it? If I wasn't so lazy I could spend 15 seconds to rinse it out on rubbish night (sorry world).

Back in the day, I would see other people walking out with a stick of chewing gum in a plastic bag so I estimate the supermarkets  and shops would have used a metric truckload pf bags per week.

On the other hand, some of the hippy bags seem to stick together like a b**tard. I've had to throw the odd one out after ripping it instead of opening it.

I don't suppose anyone brews their own coffee at home and puts it in a thermos these days? Am I betraying my age?

Hot Choc doesn't really travel that well, and you need to know you want one in advance.

Thermos with hot cocoa. Pour into cup, add full cream milk powder and sugar as required. Warning: Addictive.

I stockpiled mine and it was some time before I actually ran out, for that exact reason. But it did eventually happen!

From a story in Stuff:

“It came only months after he was ticketed while driving his Porsche on an Auckland motorway at 123kph and driving as an unaccompanied learner driver.”

A learner driver. In a Porsche?

Whys that matter? Should learner drivers be restricted to $1000 crapbox unsafe cars only?

Yes. Until they have driving and car handling experience.

If we had compulsory insurance you’d never see this.

I got my wife a thermos cup the other week and she was nearly burned and shocked that it was so hot when she finally got to it at the end* of her shift.

Learner driver in a high-power, light-weight, rear-wheel drive car.  What could possibly go wrong?

Best thing for winter days in the field for your Thermos is something commonly found at breaks when pheasant shooting in the U.K.: Bullshot.

Ingredients

500ml venison stock (reduced)
300ml tomato passata
160ml vodka (whisky can prove an
interesting alternative)
Juice of half a lemon
1tsp horseradish sauce
1tsp red wine vinegar
A few drops of Tabasco (add more if it’s a cold day)
A good dash of Worcester sauce
Salt and pepper

Brilliant!
