I also rewatched Thor: Ragnarok over the weekend ahead of Avengers: Infinity War this week. I saw it on the big screen last year but my wife missed out, and it was fun to watch it with her this time. She really enjoyed it, and we agreed that it was one of the best (definitely the most fun) of the MCU.

Also fun, and highlighting what makes the film so enjoyable, is the Honest Trailer from Screen Junkies.

My partner purchased the Thor Ragarok DVD not that long ago. I sat down with her last evening and watched about half of it before I couldn't watch any more. Sorry, but I'm totally over marvel movies now.

I saw part of the last Transformers on FTA the other day. It was full of buildings blowing up and falling over and all kinds of crap and rubble flying off in different directions and space ships flitting around zapping everything and CGA this and that and whatever else the demented special effects people could throw on top of it. I found it dizzying and confusing and ultimately, boring and finally switched it off. It seems like the early days of desktop publishing, when people who definitely didn't know better were stuffing as many fonts and gifs and whizbangs into their documents that their eager mouse fingers could click on. These kinds of films have still not yet learned that less is more. Having all kinds of things going off around you with no context loses its impact very fast and is just annoying.

Moulin Rouge. 8/10

Seen this a few times and it's still outstanding. A lot of people don't like musicals but Baz Luhrman created a whole new type of musical by using modern classics (eg Roxanne - The Police) with incredible skill.

How he didn't get the Best Director Oscar for this I'll never know.

Wrinkle in time (not my choice). So bad. Bring out the incense and crystals.

We know Oprah Winfrey can act - she was nominated for an Oscar. But her acting in Wrinkle in Time was terrible. The movie dragged. When you step back form the CGI , very little actually happened.

CGI by committee looking for a script and getting a script by committee.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

CGI by committee looking for a script and getting a script by committee.

This is where I have to be controversial and totally disagree with all of you.

A movie like the Transformers movie is so sompletely suspended from reality that it needs WAY MORE explosions, CGI and debris flying around the place.

The thing that makes these movies work is not the cerebral dialogue, or the intense smouldering good looks of the cast and their love interests. It's the CGI, explosions, debris flying everywhere and loud, obnoxious soundtrack punctuated with the sounds of massive explosions!

The more, the better....BOOM!

Watched Ready Player one over the weekend.

Good movie, decent story line and filled with CGI, so you'll appreciate it more on the big screen.

Seen a few lesser known movies lately.

The Road 6/10

Vigo Mortensen and son surviving in a post apocalyptic world. Pretty dour.

A History of Violence 6.5/10

Another Vigo Mortensen movie. This time he's an ex hit man who has escaped his past and is living with his family in small town America. Needless to say his past catches up with him. Some reasonably acceptable violence but that's about it.

Deliver Us From Evil 7/10

Eric Bana stars as an NY cop who starts investigating some bizarre crimes that lead on to suspicions of demonic possession. Pretty atmospheric in places.

"Sweet Country"

An Australian western about an aboriginal who goes goes on the run after killing a white man in self defense. Stars our own Sam Neil and Aussie legend Brian Brown.

Beautifully shot, minimalist dialogue - don't watch if you want fast action, but fans of the western genre will be rewarded. A solid 8 out of 10

Avengers: Infinity War 8/10

Definitely lived up to the hype. Any movie that takes me through a whole series of emotions, let alone a superhero one, gets a high score from me. Only a couple of weaker plot moments but they passed. I hadn't seen Black Panther, but watched a "what you need to know" video a couple of days ago and that sufficed, but you do need to be invested in the MCU to get the most out of this movie.
It is long, but needs to be because of the multiple story threads. But because of all the threads I'm still processing.

Worth seeing on the big screen. The end credits are really long, but get the normal Marvel treatment that you need to see.
