I already have a laptop.

Or just get a mouse :)

Pretty much defeats the purpose of a laptop being easily portable if you're also carrying a mouse.

Looking at some of the supported technologies in Windows 11.

Audio, Video, camera, communication (network and inter-process), devices and sensors, graphics, notifications (push and pull), copilot, security and identity (e.g. windows hello, biometrics), speech, storage, virtualization, Bluetooth, HID (human input devices - keyboard, mouse, pen, tablet, card readers) as part of a few.

Gee, impressive. Too bad it can't figure out how to scroll from the keyboard!

Not really, I use a small portable wireless mouse and a Microsoft portable keyboard (has a lid that can be used as a monitor stand) - but then I use an iPad rather than a laptop for mobility.

Arrow Up/Down

Page Up/Down

Ctrl+Home/End

(Ctrl+Up/Down I think is one page at a time in word)

(Ctrl+G is go to page)

(space bar works in web browsers)

Don't work at all or just for a particular program?

They work for me on my 2 Win 11 laptops and my Desktop.

Some programs. Thunderbird is one. I think Perplexity is another. Not sure but it was an AI.

I have the "joy" of using Word today. I wanted a word to be bold, so I pressed Ctrl-B, typed the word, then pressed Ctrl-B again (so I can type the rest of the sentence normally) and it unbolded the word.

The joy of word. Indeed.

We live in a world of AI and super computers and clever people who know programming, but between all of them, why don't they know what to do when I type 'howeverm'.

Maybe I'm the first person who ever fat fingered that mistake?

Pretty sure this is only an issue if it is capitalised, or maybe I added it to library due to terrible typing technique.

That example is more illustrative of wider spillchucker failings. Any number of seemingly obvious things that should be caught, are not.

Terminatet he connection...... etc etc.

Works fine for me.  As far as I can see, word still uses the CUA standard.  Word docs are just an xml document, so if someone was 'creating_some_text_like_this', word would create three text runs (a sequence of text with the same formatting) within the paragraph with the middle run having the <w:b /> style attached.

I am wondering if it is more auto-correct related somehow (remove formatting when typing spaces is enabled as a guess).

It was actually quite strange. I had to type a number of bold words and sometimes it behaved as I mentioned, whereas other times it toggled bold off without unbolding the word. It may have only happened when the word was in a table, but I can't guarantee that (I didn't really have the time to troubleshoot).

Tables in Word are devil spawn.  They make up their own rules as they go.
