Kookoo: ST:SNW S2E7 - the crossover with lower decks. As someone who had no idea about lower decks (I'm a bit of a single-minded trekkie) it took me a few moments to figure out I wasn't watching a crossover with Futurama. Once I figured out what was going on, it just got worse. Aside from the feeling of an in-joke that you don't really get, cartoon characters don't really translate to live action. That's why they are cartoons. It honestly feels like we're only in season 2, and SNW already jumped the shark.

And then for Ep9 they circled round and jumped the shark again.

Have started watching The Traitors on Three over the last couple of nights.

So far it's been quite fun. I understand it's an adaptation of a Dutch or English show, but it's being done fairly well here.

Paul Henry is his impish self as the host, but sometimes it doesn't quite work as he's clearly not an actor, but a seasoned host/journalist.

The general premise is a bit like Cluedo - it's a murder mystery and they're all competing for some prizemoney.

The Bear, 10/10, Disney+

Wow, this is an amazing TV series. It is intense with some stress inducing episodes. It has a huge amount of swearing. It has huge emotions. It has great characters you just want to know more about and they delve into them really well. Some very impactful moments, like the Fishes episode, the never-ending ticker tape noise in the Review episode and Sydney’s Humour (just read she is a comedian which explains why she is so good). On top of all that an epic soundtrack, loved the variety of music.

Hijack, 7/10. Apple TV

Very watchable, some strong performances but I also thought a lot of weak ones too. While there were some moments of don’t overthink that, the story held up ok and there was enough action and suspense to make you want to keep watching it.

MasterChef Australia 2023, 8/10. TVNZ+

I wonder why I like this series so much and I think it just comes down to watching the applicants go through the emotional rollercoaster to try something outside their comfort zone. This year was especially hard to watch with the passing of Jock. It is very long at 50 episodes, but I found most were very watchable and I enjoyed the series. There is a lot of creative editing and must be a lot of additional training given which we do not see but I ignore all that and just appreciate the results.

From - TVNZ OD - 8/10

If you liked Lost you'll like From. A family on a road trip get diverted due to a fallen tree and end up in one of those small hamlets where you drive out of town and just end up coming back in again. This one is a bit different though. At night 'people' appear who look normal but if they can get close enough to you they rip your throat out and dismember the resulting corpse.

Plenty of nods to Lost (I think the same creators are involved) with mysterious artefacts and unexplained phenomena and season 1 ending up with enough storylines left hanging to make you want to watch season 2.

Really rather good.

Watching War of the Worlds on Neon.

It's an Anglo-French dirge that grinds on slowly. It's occasionally violent, but mostly depressing.

It's slow-paced, with much drama and is effectively set in 3 places: London (1 group), French Alps (another unrelated group) and then going cross-country through France to get to the Tunnel for a crossing to England (third group, with one of them related to the London group).

They cover back stories, like divorces, affairs and other dramas, in an effort to flesh out the characters.

It jumps a little in the timeline sense, but mostly stays in the here and now. It could do with being a little faster paced, but my real bugbear is actually the lighting.
They just use the old trick of filming in daylight and reducing the light post-shot. Makes half the show hard to watch in daylight.

I'm up to episode 7. Could have all been over by episode 4.

Grabbing some down home entertainment watching Far North (Three+)

Tells the story of the drug bust on 90 mile beach because of an inept gang of NZ criminals.  Made headline news at the time.  Grass roots NZ comedy that is an absolute gem.  Great seeing Tem and Robyn back together again.  8/10.  Couple of episodes yet to be released.

I, Claudius. Haven't watched for about 4 decades. Excellent.

Watched that a few years ago - It really is excellent.

Though by production standards of today, will look like a filmed stage play - which it pretty much was.

Memorable surprise appearance was Patrick Stewart with full head of hair!

Many other famous UK actors as well.

Have also been watching this.

It's pretty compelling viewing and I am surprised how much of the story I wasn't aware of!

I unashamedly love trash TV, and I am thoroughly enjoying The Traitors. I particularly love watching them fighting with each other as they are sitting around the table throwing accusations at each other.

It's not quite as funny as The Bachelor or Married at First Sight, but Paul Henry's theatrics almost make up for it.

There was a great article in the Listener about the story. Some of the best, and most bizzare, lines are directly from the Police transcripts.

I agree an 8/10 so far.

I loved the bonkers episode, especially Ep 9.

Great season finale, and an overall stronger season than Picard S3 and Discovery S4.

Ahsoka episodes 1-2 on Disney +

Honestly with the open I felt like I was watching a Star Wars film rather than a TV Show.

Definately more accesible for Rebels fans but my wife who was never into the cartoons really enjoyed it to.

8/10 so far and could easily get to 9.

Norway TV series - Ragnarok - Nerd of the North. EP1/6. Under the mountain. Small town. It gets dark quickly. I loved it anyway.

Back Mirror Season 6 episode     "Demon 79" - 9/10

Just in awe of this episode. So beautifully executed and continued to trip me up.

Check out the UK version if you can find it, the US version is good too as they stacked it with reality TV people(from survivor and below deck etc). I feel like the show is best watched when a season is complete rather than twice a week in NZ and AUS.

I'm getting a bit sick of seeing similar challenges in every season in the international versions so I hope some change it up. I enjoy reality/gameshow shows so waiting for BBUK 2023 and Survivor UK and Jeopardy UK to begin this year.
