The Continental: From the World of John Wick (TV Mini Series 2023) - IMDb (Amazon Prime)

A story recounting the rise of Winston to be the manager at The Continental Hotel, set in the 1970s.

A prequel to John Wick, with some violence, but not the same as John Wick.

I give it a 7/10 - not bad, only three parts.

Paul1977:

gzt: She-Hulk S1 - EP9 - This had me hooked quickly great story and by the end of episode felt consistent with the original to an extent - I really enjoyed it.

Then, I tried to watch more episodes. That.. didn't work for me at all. I'm not going into detail, I have a few more episodes to go and that could take a while.

EP9 was the finale, so you've got me confused.

Arrg! You're right. S1-EP8 is the one I enjoyed. EP9 didn't do much for me.

I loved the last episode. Let's truly destroy the 4th wall

I finished it. My recommended watch order:

EP8 first - nothing matches it. EP2-7 flows along nicely.

I binged it in two sittings. It is slow and smart in places not really suited for binging. Binging was a mistake. Hint: Many episodes have a minute of extra time after the story board credits - I missed some. EP1 is unnecessary.

The Morning Show on Apple TV is warming up nicely. I feel like it's going to end soon, so that's disappointing. It's been a slow one this season.

I thought it was terrible from start to finish. I only watched right through from a sense of morbid curiosity.

One Piece - Two episodes in and I'm not sure what the fuss is about.

The fuss is about a live action version of a mega popular manga. Like most things of this nature, if you don't have a connection with the source material, you'll struggle to get invested.  I am not familiar with the source material and found the first episode a chore, but I'm warming up to it.  No different to the folks struggling with Ahsoka because they don't know Rebels, etc.

I didn't even make it through episode 1.

Just watched Episode 1 of Gen V on Prime Video.
Basically The Boys at University. Yikes!

I'm already hooked. It's so awful. And so great. 10/10

… whereas my 16YO - a huge fan of both the One Piece manga and anime series for many years - loved it; he thought they did a great job of turning it into a live action series.

Many of the episodes don't have enough close direction to make them into something. Even with Disney's huge extended credits filler many of the episodes could have been even shorter. Overall it's a big success for the people involved even if it didn't really take off. I hope the same people can get enough out of it to continue to a second season and pack more in. I really did enjoy so much of it. The happy ending was a nice touch too.

If adapted well you shouldn't need knowledge of the source material to enjoy. Ahsoka is different because it's essentially a sequel, but One Piece is just retelling the same story in a different medium. If anything it's usually people who are familiar with the source material who are the most critical of adaptations, not the other way around.

I'll give it a couple more episodes, but maybe it's just not for me.
