Last night I reached Season 9 episode 15 of the Walking Dead. OMG. The most shocking bit of TV I've seen in a good long while.

I think S9 has been the best except maybe S1 or equal to S1. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is an excellent bad guy, and actor in general. He is one of the most versatile actors in this genre, able to play exceedingly bad guy and surprisingly good guy interchangeably

Last night we watched the new sequel series of Frasier on demand on TVNZ+. I didn't expect it to be great but it grabbed me a bit and had a few laughs - enough that we stayed on to watch E2. Will watch some more but may get sick of it. I find the short clips of canned laughter irritating when I notice them but that's not always. Co-starring Nicholas Lyndhurst  - who seems a bit superfluous and out of place.

Bodies - Netflix - 6/10

Time travelling murder mystery. The same body turns up in 4 different eras and detectives in each era must solve the mystery to stop a nuclear terrorist attack in London.

Storyline is a bit predictable after a while and the dialogue and acting a bit wooden but it's good enough to fill a wet afternoon.

The Fall Of The House Of Usher - Netflix - 7/10

Very loosely based on the Edgar Allen Poe story the modern Usher family is a completely dysfunctional, thoroughly dislikeable bunch. Part horror, part supernatural it's a pretty good watch that grows on you.

Not one for the family though.

How full of 'frights' is it? I am not a fan of 'fright' horror. I do like supernatural thrillers, esp psychological ones.

I can't remember any real 'frights' so give it a go. I was a bit 'meh' after the first episode but am glad I persevered.

There is some sex, drugs and violence - that's why it's not family material.

It's based on a bunch of Poe's story. The main framing story, and then a separate story for each of the 6 children adapted to fit into the overall narrative.

I'd probably rank it a very close 3rd out of Mike Flanagan's Netflix shows:

  1. Midnight Mass - 9/10
  2. The Haunting of Hill House - 8/10
  3. The Fall of the House of Usher 7.5/10
  4. The Haunting of Bly Manor 6.5/10
  5. The Midnight Club 6/10

I'm up to episode three of The Continental on Prime Video.

It's set in the John Wick universe and is all about the hotel manager Winston, when he was younger and how he became the manager of the famous underworld hotel.

So far it's been very good and a lot less brutal and bloodthirsty than a John Wick movie is.

Too much yak in The Continental.

It was all rather pointless, viewers want more  John Wick not Winston

Gen V - season 1

Most of it felt like some teenage/college angst type show (Riverdale etc...) but improved and finished up ok. Probably need to watch this if you're a fan of The Boys as it leads into season 4 of the Boys.

Loki Season 2 (finale yet to go)

First few episodes were almost incomprehensible but continued due to the very likeable characters, Loki, Mobius, and the new OB. Pulls itself together and I'm looking forward to the finale.

Welcome to Wrexham Season 2

Entertaining. A few filler episodes exploring ancillary bits around the club but the football clips are great - hard to believe it's 5th division football going by the reactions. Might start a new drinking game every time Phil Parkinson swears in the locker room.

Really enjoying The Morning Show on ATV. The penultimate episode of S3 aired this week - excellent imo.

Another quiet weekend. Another (mini)series binged with TheWife™

Inside Man. Actually really enjoyed this. Shame it is only 4 episodes and just the one season. Feels like a really good launching pad for a number of series. Could be a kind of House but around crime (dont want to give away any spoilers).

No word of a second season as yet but I hope there will be more or some kind of spinoff.  8/10 for me.

Watched this a good while back and thought it a good 9/10.  It kept me guessing and surprised me with the odd plot twist, but wasn't a central character done away with at the end?  That would have made season 2 a bit tricky.

Without trying to give much away here...

I meant in terms of the guy in prison. Have each series be a different story/set of stories yet he's the steady character in each series.

Painkiller (Netflix) - 8/10

Almost a 9/10... Really very well done drama series based on truth. Makes me thankful to not live under the US health system once again. Great story lines throughout. My only let down was I think we're supposed to absolutely hate and detest Richard Sackler (played by Matthew Broderick). Personally felt very little towards him as seemed to be a bit of a doddery old man losing his marbles. I didnt think Broderick played him poorly or anything.. I just think it missed the mark for me (probably why I didnt rate it a 9).

Generally a fantastic series though.

I just finished Orange Is the New Black, certainly not a show for everyone, but by the end it made be realise how much freedom we/I have. I could, if I wanted to, move to a new city start a new life. Move countries. (obv not so easy for a lot of people, with families etc)

Idk, I feel like the last season was my favourite and they really conveyed what it's like being locked up vs free. (though overly dramatised)

It really made me pause and think for a bit.
