RNZ tells me that an eclipse is "expected" to cover parts of NZ in 2028. Are they worried that the sun, moon, or land mass may have significantly moved by then?

Not wanting to send this off onto a political tangent but if you're to believe certain American politicians it's all to do with how the 'big fullah' will be feeling about us when the time comes 😜

Humans have been able to explain eclipses for the last - what - 3,000 years?

And then we have these deplorable who make a point of ignoring science.

But as we all know (at least the initiated), an eclipse can be blasted away with a Jewish space laser!

Earthquakes however require a different approach. Only the sacrifice of a million conspiracy theorists in a deep pit will satisfy the hunger of the YouTube earthquake Alt-Reality deity!

Expectation does not imply uncertainty. I used to expect my newspaper to be delivered every day. If that had failed to occur, the sun, moon and land mass might well have significantly moved.

Having thought about it some more, the sun, the moon, and the land masses will all indeed have moved through space by then :)

Speaking of headlines - looks like the Herald is going through a revamp of its own now:

I really hope this doesn't end up like Stuff's God-awful last "revamp" which was basically hated and looked terrible.

Stuff, of course. "Is the weather in Westland impacting you? Have any cool weather pictures? Send them to us ". Hmmm, I wouldn't call pics of being flooded "cool".

So does that mean NZ is being given 4 years to repent :)

I guess people will need to factor in that this eclipse is in the middle of winter and 105 minutes before sunset. So set up on a west facing piece of high ground and take a raincoat (or puffer jacket and woolly hat).

The best high ground spots in that part of the world will be snow covered at that time of the year,

but the Tops of Coronet Peak and Cardrona have great western views,

Yeah, I was half-pondering whether to plan a trip to Sydney around it, but then realised that the place will be absolutely packed and probably not very enjoyable!

RNZ: "A sinkhole has opened up on a busy Auckland road. The pothole is due to a burst water main, an Auckland Transport spokesperson said."

So what's the photo of? A strip of "police"-labelled warning tape.
