Behodar:

RNZ: "A sinkhole has opened up on a busy Auckland road. The pothole is due to a burst water main, an Auckland Transport spokesperson said."

So what's the photo of? A strip of "police"-labelled warning tape.

Adds visual interest to the story. Target achieved. I recall tv news doing this on minor stories with newsreaders for many years.

Link to a video story on NZH website today: “What to know before visiting Austrlia”.

Eh?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

A story in NZH today describes a residential fire on Coronation Road in Hillcrest on Auckland’s N Shore.

In the body of the story there’s a screenshot of Google Maps - highlighting Coronation Street - in Belmont, N Shore.

Edit: Checked five minutes later and they’ve fixed it.

I live in Hastings. One of the small things that really annoy me is being placed in England every time I search for something unless I specify NZ.

Are you using Google.com?

Google.co.nz is better for NZ.

Duckduckgo and Bing are not so good.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/514270/government-investigates-4km-tunnel-under-wellington

The government is asking Waka Kotahi (NZ Transport Agency) to investigate a Long Tunnel option for Stage Highway 1 in Wellington.

I know Wellington traffic can be a performance, but it's not an actual stage.

I do have my location set to NZ but I still seem to get defaulted to Hastings UK a lot. It is a minor annoyance but not enough to be worth digging into.

And I shudder to think about the cost to earthquake proof this. Introduce a pinged congestion tax like Hong Kong and spend the tunnel money on all those supposed historic buildings and earthquake proof them that everyone is screaming about should stay.

Anyway I would not want to be in the region if >7 shallow quake were to hit. It would not matter how much of a NBS rating a building or tunnel had.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Fortunately this is easily fixed - just move to a place with a uniquely NZ name, like Whangarei, Tauranga, Whanganui or Kaikoura

Does TVNZ+ count?

I mean, misspelling someone's name and putting it upfront ("Daisey"):
