Oh so they kinda cut off Thames SH25 and all points north if flood risk gets too high ?
https://www.gns.cri.nz/research-projects/kauaeranga-river-flood-protection/

Pity they did not kinda build a mini bridge to elevate highway.

News is that Points north east of Gisborne are having major flooding 'forestry slash' again.

North Island as a colour Ink Blot Test.

Still very calm here, next to no wind and 3ml of rain overnight. Drizzling now. Looks like it's moved southeast overnight, it was more a south direction yesterday evening.

Still rainy and windy in Auckland. All the tracking sites I can see show it heading towards the South Island, but has it changed direction to travel slightly southwest? Will Wellington and Canterbury get hit now?

Looks like Auckland is getting some respite from the mountains disrupting the wind.

Could get hairy again wind-wise but the worst of the rain is behind us.

Not really, Coastal Canterbury will get rain caused by its rotation as per the prediction link below, but not "from" it

For us, its just a few days of wet and mildly warm Southerlies, nothing more

Waking up to the news up North was very sad.Tragic about the firemen in Muriwai giving their all to help victims and becoming victims themselves. Real heroes. Can only hope the second one is found alive. Can imagine how he must have felt trapped in the night and not hearing rescuers anywhere.

Wellington still relatively quiet with a bit of rain and light winds but we are still in orange alert so who knows. At least it’s daylight whereas up North the worst was in the night.

This has been life changing for so many people and one can only wish for them to get through it mentally. Still being alive is all that matters, everything else can be fixed.

SW so west of Auckland got whacked overnight. Auckland somewhat sheltered by the western ranges.

Lost a chunk of fence and a number of trees on our street are down/broken/uprooted.

Was a windy night.

Nothing major thankfully.

I barely slept - felt like the house was going to come off its piles, but my dog slept through the whole thing, snoring and farting gleefully.
