Looking at the aerial photo, there's no "productive zone" around that area. And the houses seem to be well away from the property. And what "morality" they want?

Bunch of NIMBY.

Yeah this sort of thing drives me nuts. Like the Tarras airport thing. Everyone selling is, oh I didn't know there was going to be an airport. If you don't want your outlook ruined, then buy it. I live between two golf courses, the number of neighbours I speak to who love the view but aren't members then get worried when there are proposed changes and I say, well it's not your land next door.

I heard a really good example of this kind of thing, it's like living one property back from the beach and that property is currently empty. You are borrowing that view, that is all. And if someone buys that empty section and puts up a two storey house and blocks your view, too bad.

If you like a view across a golf course but aren't a member, don't complain if they carve a bit off and it happens to be in front of your house.

Of all the problem neighbours that you could end up with, I would have thought some Hindus would be the least of concern.

Doesn't look like either of the aerial photos in the article show the boundaries of what is probably production (not productive) zone. There's a map here - presumably the entire area is zoned for food production or something similar.

Would much rather a genuine cultural group than a certain other "church".

Excellent location. I'd be over there every evening for the Prasad!

I didn't see property value as a listed concern. It will probably go up if anything.

I've been having some "fun" with Linux. I made a little test app and tried to use the gtk_window_move function to position it. Didn't work. It turns out that this is because I'm using the Wayland windowing system. Switching to X11 fixed it.

It turns out that Wayland makes it impossible for apps to position their windows. That seems really stupid to me. Imagine something like MacPaint if the underlying window manager plonked the palettes in random places.

When someone asked about how they're getting on with fixing this, he was told that it's like this by design, and that it cannot be changed.

Wayland is open source. So you have open source fans saying that open source is great because you can fix things you don't like, and other open source fans saying "you can't change this". Whiskey tango foxtrot indeed.

This could be in the things that annoy you thread. But it’s definitely for here.

I ordered some new sunglasses from Randolph Engineering in Randolph MA, USA. They duly arrived and when I tried them on they were too big. Got XL, should have gone for L.

Like most U.S. companies they have generous return terms: send them back in the same packaging and condition within 30 days for full refund or exchange.

Off I go to FedEx to send them back. Shipped Wed 6th, expected delivery Friday 8th (don’t you wish it worked that fast here?😳)

On Friday I get emailed by FedEx in LA. The package has been stopped by Customs. Now, before the next bit, bear in mind that the glasses are 100% made in the USA, are issued to USAF pilots and to NASA pilots, that the package labels state what it is, the correct international code for what it is and is addressed to Customer Service at Randolph Engineering  and also that they originated from there and left the USA less than 2 weeks prior.

This is the text of the email from FedEx:

1) To complete Drop Ball Test certificate (Attached) – for lens.

2) Provide manufacturer name and address as well for glasses.

3) Material composition of frame, titanium, plastic etc.

Of course I cannot supply (1). (2) is written on the paperwork. (3) I can’t answer other that with a guess that their base metal is steel.

This seems a ludicrous amount of information simply to ship US made glasses back to the US maker.

This seems like a customs form issue. It matters whether it is goods for sale, goods return, sample, gift etc.

It sounds like it is being managed as sale of goods and therefore needs evidence to show that it meets the standards for new goods.

It needs to be marked as a return.

Unless the Customs staff cannot read, I don’t think that’s it.

The speed limit doesn't seem to apply to the T3 lane on Puhinui Road.

LOL, try the road works in Fitzherbert Ave in palmy, speed signs say (30) and 99% of people drive much faster than that

I have seen tankers with trailers attached speed through there.

And as one of the 1% who actually respects speed limits, I constantly get people tailgating, honking, and dangerously overtaking.

Much to my wife's annoyance, I try to obey the speed restriction signs. I have spent quite a bit of time working inside the cones and know how frightening it can be when vehicles don't slow down.

I do understand that drivers get annoyed when there doesn't seem to be a good reason to slow down, especially when there is nothing going on inside the area.

Wise. This morning transferred an amount to my Wise account. Normally it goes through and sits in the account as it should. I look in Wise app and see the amount has been deposited but it’s blocked. To unblock it I needed to respond to why I was transferring the money from a drop down menu giving various options like, family, bill paying, investments and others. None of the options were I don’t want to say. Next, I had to give an amount I planned to add in per year before I could unblock MY funds and make a payment.

Very irritated.
