In 2019, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law allowing classroom teachers to be armed.

District participation is voluntary, and teachers receive a one-time $500 stipend for participating.

In six years, no district had yet opted to allow classroom teachers to participate.

I guess the politican trust armed teachers more than the districts. Either that, or the schools were worried about lawsuits from teachers shooting students accidently (???).

Teachers shooting students accidentally, or deliberately?

Or worried about the students stealing the guns and playing with them, given gun death is the leading cause of death in US youth: https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2024/guns-remain-leading-cause-of-death-for-children-and-teens

Is this Presidential policy?

Armed Drones to Be Deployed at Schools To Stop Mass Shooters: Newsweek

Does the 2nd Amendment cover owning (and flying) armed drones? If so, I foresee an arms race that will make Ukraine look like a sideshow.

I'm pretty sure it's a federal offence to arm anything that can fly. I remember reading about someone in the US getting a thorough spanking for attaching a 9mm pistol to a drone and putting the footage on YouTube.

About Polish CEO Piotr Szczerek snatching a baseball hat while it was being handed to a child, and, like a pickpocket, executes a lightning fast hand-off to his wife, ignoring the child's complaints.

Then threatens lawsuits against anyone saying something negative on social media, and demanding written apologies and thousands in recompenses for each comment.

I'm hoping they already fixed this. Basically Woolworths had left open a gift card utility webpage that doesn't have a captcha, and allows unlimited unthrottled attempts. So you can brute force the pin.

That gift card company needs the book thrown at them as many people will not have dealt with the recovery of the money from them and just given up.

This is why gift cards are a bad idea and if you think that giving them instead of cash is better, then you are part of the problem that lets them survive.

Short version: Amazon started building an NZ data centre, stopped, took photos of a foreign one, and announced that the NZ one had "launched".

For this $7.5B figure being bandied around they could simply purchase the Manapouri power station and the Comalco plant and connect a high capacity data pipe the world from there.

I just found an issue of a magazine in my letterbox, addressed to the previous homeowner. I bought the house seventeen years ago. Either something went wrong with their membership database, or their publishing schedule is extremely sporadic.

Boy did they have to go back a long way to find a viable backup to restore!

The following is hearsay: A friend told me The NZ PM Christopher Luxon was on TV this morning patting himself on the back for the $7B investment from Amazon on the same new data centers near Auckland that have apparently just gone live.

Christopher Luxon seem to forget that Labour got the ball rolling.

The reporter asked him where's the power coming from, given that we've have trouble keeping the lights on in the past. Luxon laughed saying it was something we're working on.

For clarity, I'm not a vegetarian / vegan.

And I don't support non-science based banning of lab-grown meat, just to protect an old industry from a new one.

In this video, they show a frankly gruesome image of BBQ ribs. It reminded me of a heart surgeon telling me about ribs and sternum work, splitting the breastbone (sternotomy) and retracting the chest and how it resembled prepping ribs for the grill.
