Whilst I understand that people are keen to get their citizenship approved as soon as possible, and that DIA's processing times are completely unacceptable and unreasonable, it's worth keeping in mind that every 5 minutes they spend having to reply to a 'what's the progress on my application' query, is 5 minutes not spent actually processing applications.

It's also still much faster than Australia's.

but Australia requirement is much easier

At the time you apply you must have been:

  • living in Australia on a valid visa for the past 4 years
  • a permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen for the past 12 months
  • away from Australia for no more than 12 months in total in the past 4 years, including no more than 90 days in total in the past 12 month

so in total just 4 years and include other visa you had , NZ you need 5 years as Resident , I could have apply 2.5 years ago if it was same as Australia

Does anyone know if there's an email or phone number to contact the ceremonies team? And what are your experiences? Have you had to contact them or have they contacted you?

Thank you :)

Have a look at this fyi request. It has all the info about the ceremonies and the way to contact ceremonies team.

Wow that doesn't seem right. Is there any way you could get in touch with them? maybe somebody knows how to get in touch with them?

I asked ceremonies team and got their reply.

My certificate will get printed in December since the district of Auckland where I live in had the ceremony to be held in December which is now canceled due to covid.

Did they give you a date? Or just say it would be done in December? I emailed yesterday asking when mine would be printed, they replied a few hours later saying they are working through certificate allocations and I will receive an email with more information shortly.

Myself NZ citizen and waiting for my wife's application to be processed - applied in May this year. These delays are nothing but a disaster. How do they justify processing delays with a new system? They must expect favourable outcomes post development of a new system. Covid lockdowns are understandable but continuous constant delays are suspicious. Can't have any travel plans just to avoid the horrible scandal called MIQ.

On the older system my own entire citizenship processing in 2019 took just 7 weeks from application to receiving of my passport in Auckland but a new system smells to be a grand waste of tax payer's money.

Has anyone got any response from DIA yet on which month processing is underway?

I understand your feeling , my workmates applied on 2019 all of them got it in less than 3 months , so I thought I will get it in 3 months when I apply , but when I applied in March 2021 everything changes and still waiting

The new system is a joke , Covid should cause  just 3 months extra delay not 9 months.

According to DIA response they are working on January application for online , I think December and January for Paper application.

1-3 weeks usually depend , after your confirm your details they will add your name to need approve list then wait for minister to sign it

then send you approval email , which is usually on Tuesday

So when you receive an email to confirm your details, does that mean a case officer just has been allocated or does that mean all the necessary checks has been completed & application is really for an approval?
