Late to the party, but I have started watching The Gentlemen on Netflix.

It's hard to separate the movie from the show as they are very much set in the same world with a similar premise, but once you wrap your head around the concept that this is a "The Gentlemen Universe" show and not a remake, it's very entertaining.

It's got a real Guy Ritchie feel to it and it's well acted, produced and filmed.

Just a couple of episodes in so far and I am hooked.

You will be happy to know that it is not a "One and done" and a second season is in the works..

Star Trek: Discovery S5 - 4/10

You've just raised some memories for me, exactly the same experience.  One of those I've come this far let's see it through moments, but then you realise you've wasted a lot of time in the end on this.

Glad I saw this review as it made me check and yes Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 is apparently starting again now in mid July.

Will go check that out.

I have started watching Beacon 23 on Prime video.

Based on a remote space "lighthouse", it's a good scifi fix if you want one, without too much space action.

Finally finished Andor S2. Absolutely A+ TV from start to finish and even better when paired with Rogue One. The original trilogy is will always be the OG, but Andor + Rogue One honestly comes out as my absolute favorite Star Wars media.

Also for me the true mark of quality is that the wife really doesn't give to shits about Star Wars, but she really enjoyed Andor and wants to rewatch Rogue One again now.

Mobland S01E01 - 9/10 (Prime)

Now that my partner and I have been able to put ST: Discovery behind us, and while we're still waiting for the next episode of Murderbot to drop, we've moved on to Mobland.  It's a fantastic first episode with some top-drawer acting talent.  Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren - directed by Guy Ritchie.  It has echoes of The Gentleman, but with a touch less humour.  There are some dark humour moments in Mobland, but it's a bit more serious.  It's a fascinating watch - especially Tom Hardy's character who is going about his work with a grim professionalism.  It has a very "Guy Ritchie" feel to it, and some of the accents are a bit mumbled, but we both agreed that this will be appointment viewing for us.

Dead Ahead - S01E01-3 (TVNZ+) - 9/10

This has to be one of the most original local productions I've seen in a long time. The mix of English and Te-Reo works really well and I think I'll end up picking up a bunch of new phrases by the end of the season. The overall premise is a NZ family moves back home after many years in London, and take up the family home in a small town. A number of their ancestors appear as kēhua to the children and the husband. I'd really love to see this picked up internationally as it provides a very different view on indigenous NZ.

Watched this last night too.  It suprised me that it appeared really professionally made and not the budget production values of most local dramas in the past.  A few small things and plot holes I can pick on so far, but really definitely worth watching and hopefully there is a S2.

Squid Game - Season 3

Apparently this is it for this series although Netflix are looking at making an American version (not a remake but set in the same universe).

A poor ending - this season was just terrible. 456 basically sulked the entire time.

2/10

I've been watching Ironheart over the last few days, on and off.
I was a bit lost at first as I couldn't remember where Riri fit in, but after a quick google and a bit of revision on all things Marvel, I got a bit more familiar with where this fits in.

Asa  bit of a standalone show, I am quite enjoying it, but it does feel a little...contrived.

It hasn't been too sanitised by Disney, which is good, but it's no Daredevil.

Felt to me like it was just a vehicle for what happened at the end, so it didn't have to be introduced out of nowhere in a future film or show.

Tyres , Season2 :Netflix

Its worth a watch. A bunch of no hopers running & working in a Tyre shop.
Its the characters/actors that make the show .

Rick & Morty : I think its really lost its charm & grittyness . Rick now seems more like Inspector Gadget (the 1980s version). Too many body gadgets .
I guess it had to change ?

We're now up to episode 8 and we're hooked.  We're deliberately rationing it to one episode a night because we know it's going to be a long wait until they release a new season (I'm assuming it will be followed by another season here).  Such a fantastic show.

The big question that remains - what to watch when it finishes?  Any similar-style shows people can recommend?  We watched The Gentlemen last year and that was also very good.
