That 5 months after reporting it to the CCC, the sinkhole in our street still has not been touched or even marked!

This is despite several phone and email reminders!

get someone to fall in it and all hell will break loose.

No, the downside of the ACC system is that, because no one gets sued, no one cares.

No - actually because of OSH regulations etc - you'll find that if you can phrase a statement and questions in a manner to pin liability on an individual, then things might happen:

Find name of most senior manager responsible - or if that's difficult, just go straight for the CEO.

Send email with made up but at least half-believable fabrication or even just potential future "incident".  Then state that "as I've let you know, then you can't deny responsibility on the basis of not having been informed of this potential safety issue"

Signed xyz citizen

cc Campbell Live / Chch Press - whatever.

You will see bureaucrats move at phenomenal speed if you do that well.

no , in Rotorua we had a old lady trip over a broken footpath and break her hip. OSH investigated , the local paper got involved and it was found the council knew about the footpath but ignored fixing it. The council was fined thousand's by OSH and from then on if you notify the council about any problems they will fix them within a day or two, otherwise it's even a bigger fine.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

"Un"- fortunately, the fibre tubes for the area are running through it - this is where the area cabinet is. They are holding the road "sort of" up.

That is what caused it - the installation people broke the kerb and did nothing about it!

Slowly the road is slumping, and no rain etc in the gutter from this end of the street goes past to the proper sump.

If you lie a straight edge across it the slump is majorly evident.

I did ask if "It had to swallow a small car or School bus first, before being fixed?", and got no reply!

Hmmm - we pay rates for this incompetence!

Rest assured that if the responsible party was at risk of a multimillion dollar legal action you would not need the local paper to get involved.

Agree, plus people who are happy to help the victim, now won't touch her for fear of being sued

Microsoft's account sign in thingy, which never accepts my (correct) password the first time. I always need to enter it, have it rejected, then go out and come back in - at which point it asks whether this is a "work or personal account" (it doesn't ask the first time) and finally accepts my password when I choose Personal.

Schools which actively allow picking up of their students on yellow lines on an S bend.

(I'm looking at you Middleton Grange School)

They knew because they even had people in hi-viz assisting the students!

No wonder no-one treats road safety seriously if they are "teaching" kids

that sort of behaviour is OK and the Road Rules are for someone else!

Very odd for a school preaching "intelligent design".

When people put food in the fridge at work, then don't eat it or take it home but leave it there to fester.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

HP Photosmart 7520

You'd think that by connecting it to a wireless network that it'd now be secured to said network.  Nope.  It still has another wireless interface *anyone* can connect to. (Airprint?)

An arp -a displays its IP address and from there you can connect to its admin page.

Neighbour has one.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.
