The buyer and the seller are responsible. There is no compulsion to buy from dubious sources.

Trademe terms and conditions state:

Event tickets
You may not list tickets to events which are subject to the Major Events Management Act 2007. For more information please see this Ministry of Economic Development site about major events.

Fleetwood Mac is obviously not a major event.

If trademe can do it for major events (ie the 2011 World Cup). Why not do it for all concert tickets as well?

Trademe has already proven in 2011 that it can be done.

Just because they not responsible (which I agree to by the way). it does nto mean they should just ignore it. There are certain steps that trademe can take to remove ticket scalpers off trademe. But my gut tells me that these scalpers contribute quiet considerably to trademe's profits, hence the lack of motivation from trademe to do anything about it.

That's right, if they cancel your ticket they keep your money. Hell, they could make a mint just running the registrations then "oops, cancelled" at the last minute. Rock away with 10,000 * $110 and 6,000 x $150 - $2,000,000 for nothing. Not bad huh?

Haha don't be daft. They would need to prove the event could not have been run safely. It's disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

Not disingenuous at all - I'm not saying they would, only that they could. And they unquestionably could. There'd be fire and brimstone if Ticketek added a similar clause to their terms of sale.

No doubt TradeMe could relatively easily forbid resale of tickets for greater than face value. They apparently choose not to as it presumably makes them a lot of money.

Not that they probably need it given how steep their general fees have gotten over time. The benefit of having a virtual monopoly.

I sold a Kings of Leon ticket once, reserve was what I paid for it, it went for about 3 times that amount. I felt guilty so only charged the girl who won enough extra to cover the fees. Even doing that was probably breaching the terms of the ticket. Given my dislike for Ticketeks methods, I'm not too heartbroken about that though.

Trademe blocking the arrangment of a sale between 2 willing parties for a price they have mutually agreed on is just absurd.

If the scalpers can buy tickets and sell them for a profit, they were too cheap to start with.

Half the problems come from the idiot promoters doing that thing where they announce a third concert at a later date after driving people to the scalpers because concert 1 and 2 are sold out.

IMO the correct solution is for the ticket sellers to operate it as a tender or auction process with no resale rights, just the ability to back out of the transaction and hope that they re-sell to someone else for more than you paid, or else you are out the difference.
