Geektastic: For example, they allow concert tickets to be sold and are happy to take their cut but if the concert is cancelled and the refunds go to the original ticket buyer it is impossible really to get TM to make much effort to help any subsequent owners of the tickets get their money back.

I have zero sympathy for those dumb enough to create a scalpers market.

blakamin: Unfortunately, in my case a few years back, they weren't even interested until I'd gone to the police.  I'd lodged a complaint in Kapiti and TM still didn't want to know.
In the mean time, the guy ripped off another 17 people. The a-hole was from New Plymouth.
After not even replying to me, when an officer in New Plymouth got involved and called me, they wanted to be my best friend.

Yeah, that's crap. Hopefully things have improved a lot since then. An ex-colleague of mine heads that team now, he's a sharp operator.

Yep, I've been doing those for quite some time now. Vast selection and great prices. Have brought quite a bit of kit and not had a single problem - long may that continue!

"I have zero sympathy for those dumb enough to create a scalpers market."

You mean Trade Me, who allow it, or the ticket companies who also allow it in their T&C's?

The tickets are often sold by people who can no longer attend for whatever reason and as long as they are sold for no more than the cost it's allowed.

The problem occurs when the concert is cancelled and the lazy ticket companies make life easy for themselves by doing automatic refunds to the original buyer, not the present owner of the tickets. TM, despite happily facilitating the sale and taking fees, has no assistance to offer in those circumstances. The lucky original buyer of the tickets is quids in, having been paid when he sold the tickets then getting a free refund from the issuer!

The ticket is useless without the ability to redeem it for concert entry.

In account refunds the seller should refund the purchase price (perhaps deducting commission).

Why would trademe not get involved? At least to the extent of advising the seller to pay up or face a ban?

Indeed. But they don't. They more or less said 'oh that's a shame. We hope people are nice to each other ' when I raised the issue!

I find that disturbing. Hopefully that is a one-off customer service mistake on the part of a trademe staff member that escalation can solve on the second try. It is essentially selling a future service for a fixed price and then not providing that service. I would expect a seller to be banned for that scenario. If a refund is not provided.

I saw the Wheedle logo on the Crusaders training jumper last night on the news - just thought it was interesting, haven't noticed it before.

I wonder how effective any of the advertising has been. They have done a fair bit of it. But when you go to their website, the top is all text and bland with dull greys. Not as inviting as trademes IMHO. Nothing there to entice me to signup for an account, to keep their service sticky. These days website will often ask for your email address as the first thing you get when visiting the site as a new user. You would think that they would use google ads more.

Still lots of errors when trying to access listings. This topic is misnamed and the mods should rename it immediately to avoid confusion.

This is my favourite bit: https://twitter.com/wheedlenz
That's right, 321 followers vs TradeMe's 12,100. Just kill it already.

Last posting nearly a month ago too, and only 76 tweets in total . I wonder which social media consultants they are using, as with that much investment, they should be using someone. 321 with that much tv advertising, over I am guessing 6months-1 year, perhaps shows how effective tv advertising is for online services like this.

No. I mean obtuse people who buy them.

I would say only a fraction of tickets are sold by those who can no longer attend - the rest are sold by people looking to make a quick buck. The speed with which they appear after big name concerts sell out within a few hours is ample evidence of this.

The reason Trademe don't get involved has already been explained.

I read your previous posts but none contained an explanation of why TradeMe would not get involved in the one case of concert tickets. In other posts you do point out they act to protect the integrity of the market for other items.

Last time I purchased concert tickets from TradeMe they were sold by a person who had received complimentary tickets but could not attend due to a pre-booked holiday on the same date. Concert was sold out, the asking price was the same as or very close to the booking office price iirc. I was a happy customer.

Hypothetically if the concert had been cancelled I expect that person would have refunded the purchase price. I would have expected some involvement from TradeMe if the person did not.

Can you explain to me then why TradeMe are happy to collect the commissions from these sales but are unwilling to take minimal steps to protect the integrity of the market in this instance?

This is light-years off topic. Start a new thread - I'll be happy to respond there.
