I've often wondered about this sort of thing. If I was totally alone, I would most likely head to the nearest Mall. Most malls now have food supplies, a camping place for equipment if needed and clothing stores so I should be all set.

And then I'd start doing the collecting thing, like WALL-E. I'm just awful at being alone. I would try my best to retain an illusion of a connection to the human race somehow. Being the last human alive is just a bit too much for my head to process, I think.

If a man is by himself alone in the world is he still wrong?

Re fighter jet I would probably struggle to get it started so maybe go for a wander in area 51 instead.

Shindig: Phone my mum

She's not answering...the cell reception is shot there.

Besides the fact you are the last person on earth, not second to last :)

Assuming I was aware of the situation, I'd set about doing some essential things fairly quickly. Although I'd also have some good fast car fun early on too.

Anything for my plan that requires a vehicle to move or fuel to operate is on the top of the list. Fuel goes bad relatively fast, so you'd need to do everything that needs it early.

I'd setup a self sufficient system in anticipation of the infrastructure failing. Because it definitely will at some point. Power, running hot and cold water, heating, and hygiene facilities, are high on the list.

I'd find some vehicles that can run on ethanol, and set up a basic ethanol production plant. A fuel based vehicle is going to last much longer and go much further than an electric one.

I'd find plenty of guns and ammo, as well as some good sharp knives. These will ensure I have a long term food supply as well as defence against wild animals (dogs).

The beauty of which, is that as the last person on earth you don't necessarily have to do anything about the mess.

I'd locate the nearest river, that will be my home. get shopping trollies of food that can be kept, go to Placemakers to grab an axe and useful stuff, and build a base/home/place out of town and by the river. Town will be useful, but its not possibe to live there.

After getting over the initial "WTF" shock (so... 6 months later), I'd move my personal stuff  and the dog to a new house down the road that has solar panels and water tanks.

Go shopping for for non-perishables, couple of generators, fishing gear and probably a couple of rifles to fend off any dogs that decide to go feral.

Then load the dog into the car, and head off to Takapuna Nissan and find the keys for a GTR.....  then hit the road to go to places Ive never been.

Eventually might get in a boat and hit the South Island for a few weeks, then head back home.  Depending how things go, could even get up the courage (and knowledge) to head to the harbor, get in a nice big launch and head out towards Australia......

I would do the following, while technology was still available (not necessarily in this order):

1. learn to fly
2. learn maintenance of motorised objects/electronics/wiring/plumbing etc
3. learn to play guitar
4. learn about agriculture/horticulture/hunting/gathering
5. get over my fear of spiders/snakes/the dark/zombies/vampires/werewolves
6. research the locations of knowledge depositories - i.e. world's most exhaustive libraries etc
7. learn to build
8. stockpile any/all clothing and resources I could ever need in several locations and in several backpacks/transporters for adventuring
9. learn to shoot/maintain a weapon/use a bow/make a bow
10. learn to navigate

Once I had got well enough down the track with most of that, I'd start exploring further afield, using vehicles of every sort to get about (depending on their availability and the availability of fuel).
I'd then get to the coast and head to Australia, after which I would go through Asia, on to Europe and eventually Africa and again through Northern Europe/Asia to America).

Exploring, foraging, hunting, building, enjoying, etc.

I already have a bugout location sorted with fresh water, solar heating, wood supply, farmland for cattle, access to rabbits and various edible birds, garden for food etc.

Most likely spend the first month or 2 gathering up and setting up essentials for living off grid

- solar power system
- Plug in electric car or 2 for when fuel goes off
- batteries
- generators
- toiletries, medications, vitamins, first aid
- seeds
- tools & hardware
- additional firewood \ logs
- tinned goods and staple foods
- bottled water
- ammunition and firearms
- sanity items (DVDs, reading material)
- Alcohol
- Clothing

While it would be nice to have some fun along the way, I suspect living off grid without mod cons is going to be hard work with very little time to waste.
