But suggestions of killing the cat are ok? Holy Moly there are some unbelievably intolerant people in these forums.

Thankfully the OP seems to have a good dose of common sense.

I guess illegal duping becomes a police matter. But would you report duping to the police? It seems quite a kiwi thing to do. We had neighbours across the road put stuff in our bin, luckily we got it on video, so took the bag out and just put it outside their fence and they took it back. Would also recommend some form of video surveillance, as you can buy hunting cameras quite cheaply these days. Just make sure you don't point it at other people properties, and you are only recording areas within your own property, as it becomes a privacy issue if you are recording onto other peoples.

Some people like us like to put the bin out at night , and in the morning stick that nights/mornings rubbish in the top just before they collect it. When you find the bin lid is up and a big bag has been stuffed in, it is very annoying. Also our bin company won't take the bin if the lid isn't down. It would be good if they had some form of locking system, maybe with a magnet key, that stops the bin lid being opened, as I have seen too many bins pushed/blown over, and rubbish scattered all over the road.

If one puts the bin out half empty it costs $X , if someone puts some rubbish in it the cost is still the same. If the collection was invoiced based on weight then I could understand the angst.

So now we 95% sure we know the source of the rubbish. What practical joke will you do to get back at your neighbours but at the same time not being vindictive?

Some how I would like to return all there rubbish back to them but I don't want to be "Neighbours at war" and have some sort of awkward hostility.

This happened to me but they put the rubbish in the recycle bin so it was not emptied, Found loads of evidence including bills and even boarding passes and hand written notes

They won't be doing that again

think you missed mine, who said its a council provided service? most councils include waste disposal in their rates.

if you take it to the council you will jsut end up starting a war with the neighbor.

This has happenned to me. Put the bin out on a Tuesday night, went to add a couple of things on Wednesday morning before heading off to work, there's a few plastic shopping bags that weren't there the night before, largely filled with used disposable nappies but also some general rubbish, including mail addressed to the next door neighbours. Usually I wouldn't actually care, but that week the bin was already quite full and as mattwnz said earlier, the company we use won't collect it if the lid isn't closed properly.

I took out just enough of his rubbish so I could close the lid, and went over and knocked on his door and said (politley) that he was welcome to use my bin when there was space, but to please not over-fill it, and offered to sell him a council rubbish bag (at cost, also available at any local supermarket). I find being honest and reasonable works 90% of the time, and you still get on with your neighbours afterwards.

Like a lot of this thread, it was humour. I suspect, like me, Geektastic couldnt give a toss about this thread.

As far as what to do. I'd be knocking on their door and having a friendly chat. Be friendly.
After that I'd be checking, and if it kept happening I'd be dropping it on their doorstep.

The note is a bad idea. Passive aggressive crap like that is what starts bad relationships.

It's often difficult to get the courage to go and talk to people about things like this, but it's time to put your big boy pants on :)

Doh!. "refuse". One of my downfalls in life with mild dyslexia, refuse and refuge would spell the same for me.

The final result. The refuge company is coming today to collect the rubbish at no extra charge as there was a mistake on their part for not emptying the bin on Monday.

I've kept a few pieces of key evidence so if it does happen again I put on my metaphorical "big boy pants on" and a confront them head on.
