Dingbatt: How about "Dirty Secrets Behind Popular Professions" that appears in this morning's NZ Herald (shabby little tabloid)? A mix of urban legend, hearsay and downright misrepresentation (since when is unemployment a profession?).
I note there is no mention of journalists in the article. I assume they are all lily white, or maybe their profession isn't popular. Or maybe it has become so much a case of opinion and social media trends masquerading as fact that it is no longer a profession at all?

Very poor.

It's just a post/thread from reddit a couple of days ago.

The declining quality is remarkable.

Makes it easier to decline once the paywall goes up..

Don't get me started on any of those zero-IQ stories about The Bachelor vapid bimbos.

Yeah this is truly terrible rewriting Reddit posts. It is not original content and adds no value to the information. None of it is even verified so you might as well make it up instead.

Key point: No value to an NZ reader whatsoever. Dig that hole and you will not come out.

I'm going to defend BBC here, this is true journalism about a stupid case, not a headline that misrepresents or overplays a trivial event.

I was suckered by a few of these but have learned to avoid them. They just make me angry for wasting my time. I don't see ads so am not sure what they are supposed to accomplish. In a former life I was a journalist of sorts. Glad I'm not any longer.

I look at overseas papers online too and exactly the same stories appear there - I assume there's a supplier that they all subscribe too, or maybe they provide the copy for free as PR. Journalism is not really a career anymore.

There are wire services and syndication agencies that newspapers subscribe to. This used to be a valuable tool in the days before instant world-wide communication. Not sure what purpose it serves any longer since anyone can see the same stuff everywhere.

There is something odd about this at the top of the world news section:

"Bouncing ball optical illusion has the internet befuddled"

World news? This stuff can be fun but it needs a new section. Maybe call the section "Things that befuddled the internet this week". You guys that read the front page will still be annoyed but I won't : ).
