True, but there is quite a difference between being legally privy to information which the recipient's conscience says they need to 'act" on to blatant "breaking and entering" as Rawshark did and then handing the ill gotten goods onto Nicky Hager.  

 

 

Agreed, but what happens to the moral balance once the goods have been passed on?

Just want to add this to consideration.

 

I see there is criticism of our journalists (and rightly so) however they are under immense pressure these days to publish lots of content.

 

Journalism and the news are not as profitable as they used to be.

 

 

 

Subsequently it has become an industry where quality and accuracy isn't as important as it was.

 

Also as previously mentioned in this thread, its just about entertainment.

 

 

 

 

 

Source: Friend who was a journalist, but got the hell out of there before things turn to complete <expletive>  - if it hasn't already.

There are some (few) specialist journals where you can read quality journalism still. Foreign Policy magazine, for example.
