I am allergic to cats. I would be quite happy if they were added to the national pest register. Or at least some attempt was made to control their mass destruction of NZ. But I also think Mr Morgan is an idiot, and his anti-cat rhetoric has not been well presented.

She might not love you any more - you need to conduct a loyalty test. Drop some not-quite-dead rats in her shoe cupboard, yawn in her face after eating a can of sardine fancy feast, jump on the table and cough up a fur-ball when she's eating her muesli. Devoted owners cope with this, but if you notice a steep fall-off in the number facebook/reddit photos of you she's posting, it's time to bring out the heavy guns - deliberately infect her with toxoplasmosis. Once the oocysts invade her brain, they'll force her to love you.

Googled allergy to Siamese cats and found this: https://www.petfinder.com/cats/living-with-your-cat/cats-for-allergy-sufferers/

Over 30 years ago when visiting regularly 2 different friend's houses who both had pure Siamese cats I found myself being highly allergic to those cats.

Before we got our current British Blue - I approached all known cats (short and long hair) in the neighbourhood (except there were no Siamese) and found no symptoms of allergy whatsoever.

The article in the link above suggests that people can be allergic to cats but not equally to all breeds.

Last I checked, the cats in New Zealand didn't swim here by themselves. We introduced them; along with rats, stoats, pigs, deer, etc.

I approve of feral cat numbers being culled back. All pet owners should have their animals fixed. Sadly so many don't and there are many thousands of unwanted cats.

We also introduced rabbits. and wasps.

I don't actually dislike cats as such (I mean cmon cute and furry etc), I just dislike other peoples animals coming onto my property, killing birds, pissing, pooping, etc. I'd have exactly the same issue with dogs or fish if they came onto my property and did those things. If cats were microchipped, and the owners got large fines for them roaming off their property, it would be far less of a problem.

Have you gone over to all your neighbours and explained to them the situation? Or are you just shooting cats without giving the owner a chance to 'teach' their cat to stay away from your property?

Have a City of Calgary license.
Remain on the owner's property.
Do not disturb the peace by howling or crying.
Do not damage others' property.
Do not scatter garbage.
Do not chase, threaten, or attack a person or an animal.
Fines for failing to comply with the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw range from $25 to $1500.

Lived there for a while - and had a cat. She was leash trained, stayed on our (fenced) property, and (usually) would come when called.
It was amusing to watch the neighbours walking their cats down the street. Some weren't as leash ready as others..

Doesn't really apply to me, I don't tend to shoot cats or children. But there are people out there that see the two as being no different. And I certainly know of children climbing over peoples fences and doing things that would upset the owner of that property.

Only bad can come out of shooting peoples peoples cats. Sitting around making smug comments about shooting peoples animals just makes everyone just a little more heartless, cold and cruel. We're certainly not helping make a better tomorrow. In fact, it's just making the whole world a far uglier place.

A world where someone might pop your son in the neck a couple of times with a .22 air rifle, or leave some cyanide laced sweets where he will find it.

I've decided to befriend my neighbors and talk to them like an adult about their pets and children. No issues on my street, maybe I am just lucky? *rolls eyes*

I agree that "shooting your neighbours cats" would be a very dumb callous (and probably dangerous) thing to do, but I really think you need to revise your views if you think the above is true.

I suspect that there aren't many people at all (possibly none outside secure wards) in NZ who see those two things as being no different.

I think that bringing children into the debate doesn't work very well. If it was intended to produce sympathy for cats then it seems to me that your confidence is misplaced. Graphic imagery of children being harmed is not needed and just appears as "more heartless, cold and cruel."

Bricks through windows, nasty letters, ring-barking your tree, shooting cats, sleeping with your wife, coining car doors, damaging your property. It all just works towards an end goal of a crappy neighbourhood, it's both cumulative and very destructive. If you like doing awful things to your neighbours in your own backyard there will be consequences. For everyone.
