One more time, if this was some kid on the street would we be having this conversation? Nope.

You can say that a million times, but it doesn't change the fact that he is the PM's son, he knows he's the PM's son, he uses the fact that he's the PM's son to seek attention, the media play up to that, and not in your wildest dreams is he "some kid on the street".  He's not even a kid - he's 21.

Mocking abject fools who behave like the PM's son is a step in the right direction.

Except that if joking isn't allowed, mocking most definitely shouldn't be allowed :)

The most efficient method I've seen to get yobos to STFU and stop hassling women, I witnessed in a pub in Sydney. My wife and a friend were getting a bit of unwanted attention, there was stuff all I could do about it, the only option seemed to be to leave and go elsewhere.  Our friend sorted it - she stripped naked in an instant, stood on our table, pirouetted while screaming obscenities at yobbos, threw clothes back on and sat down.  We had a very pleasant evening, yobbos behaved themselves, several women who'd witnessed the display came over to offer congratulations and commendations. I don't think this would work in NZ, neither should women ever need to go to such extremes.

So in one breath people don't want these people getting special treatment, but in the other they are expected to meet a higher standard.

You can only pick one I'm afraid. Which is it for you?

I thought the comment itself was well thought out actually.

Well let's talk about that. He shouted "Real men ride women!".

I would describe that as obnoxious and creepy.

Which means I'm coming pretty close to agreeing with a previous poster I disagreed with.

Rubbish.  They do get "special treatment" - that's a fact of life.  They are held to standards which should apply to everyone anyway, the fact that they get lambasted when they transgress an obvious consequence of the lack of anonymity.

I do have certain sympathy - Key junior didn't get to choose his parents.  However my sympathy is tempered by the fact that he clearly likes and seeks attention.

gzt: For the most part teenagers in various forms doing things like emitting sharp yells on driveby in attempts to shock and get a reaction. Also just yelling dumb stuff randomly

Happens when you are walking down the street too.  I didn't realise it was a thing until you mentioned it.  If only they would pull over after doing so...

MikeB4: Storm in a key cup

I see what you did there! Very clever.

But I agree, if anyone out of the public eye have said this would it be news?

networkn: One more time, if this was some kid on the street would we be having this conversation? Nope.

No, it would not be news. Unless it was part of a Herald series on street harassment.

Max Key is a minor celebrity. He has produced music videos of his original music work and performs as a DJ. This is a story about a minor celebrity behaving badly. Which is why the Herald published it in the entertainment section online. Just like they would for any other 'celebrity behaving badly' story.

No Sir, it's not "rubbish". You have contradicted yourself. Do we not both agree, that if this was some other 21 year old "kid"  (I don't consider a male an "adult" until they are 25 due to general immaturity), we would NOT be having this conversation? If that's the case then they are being held to a different standard.

We agree that he didn't pick his parents and likely had little or no say over the fact his Dad his PM.

I stand by my comment, it was a rather witty remark, are we so precious that we see a comment that uses sexual innuendo as creepy, I really pity those that do.

Surprising you felt there was "stuff all" you could do about it.

Interesting, I'd consider that equally offensive or even more so than the behaviour occurring beforehand. I'd recommend next time going and having a word with Management who on more than one occasion I have found to have a very small threshold for yobbo behaviour, even in Australia.

I fairly recently was in an Australian Bar watching an AB's game, dressed clearly as an AB's fan. I was invited to sit with a group of Australian Supporters, who offered to buy me drinks, and were in very good form and very good sports when we spanked them. About 20 minutes in one of the other supporter groups came over to make some comments and the manager was over in a flash suggesting behaviour of that nature wasn't acceptable and if they were going to continue they could leave. An apology was promptly offered and the night was very pleasant.

I would have to say in my recent travels, both to Australia and other countries where I have encountered Australian men, I have found them much better behaved than Kiwi men and UK men (Some of the worst behaviour I've experienced from men recently were almost without exception, English.

It left me with gaping jaw and eyes wide with amazement, then a smug smile.  She knew much more about men than men know about themselves - especially yobos.

What do you suggest I should have done?  Rolled up my sleeves, demonstrated my chivalry and athleticism by performing some left and right hooks in the air, told them that I thought that they were behaving like awfully uncivilised beasts, and invited them to come outside for fisticuffs?

Did you read my entire comment or just that one line, and see red? (In case you are in doubt, I didn't make that comment to insult you, or suggest you aren't capable of looking after your SO).

My suggestion would have been (and the same I would have, and have done in the past) is raise the issue quietly, with the manager).
