Having a proper router would likely give me a prompt to upgrade to a faster internet plan as well (as I've seen conflicting reports on whether the HG659 can handle gigabit speeds).

Slightly OT but the HG659b is one of the best performing routers for a Gigabit connection and is easily capable of routing 1Gbps/1Gbps. Performance is vastly superior to many routers that are vastly more expensive, as many people on here have found spending hundreds on a few router only to find it isn't capable of routing anywhere near Gigabit.

Initially I had a previous router sitting on a couple of screws on the hooks on the back of the router. Even with plasterboard screwplugs it didn't last long before moving.

With the RB2011 I got the wallmount kit. This is well worth it. Attached it with screw plugs and its mounted really well

Do you mean Cloud Router Switch? are you switching directly on the switch chip? Or have you got a bridge configured for the required ports? Switching it shouldn't struggle much at all. Or do you mean it has trouble routing/NATing stuff?

The CPU's on these are no better than the small RB9xx routers so not surprising.

Anyway, I will enter the comp. No photos of current set up as its a mess after moving house. At home I have an RB2011 on a UFB 100/100.

IPsec tunnel to my auckland office which has a UFB 100/100 with a CCR1009 - absolute beast of a router for the price.

So the RB3011 would be great to get a bit more power at home to get traffic flowing over that VPN.

This would be a welcome upgrade to my RB2011UiAS-RM which has done me proud, but is starting to hit CPU limits with all the capabilities I'm using from it, and all the extra gear I've installed over the past few years consuming the bandwidth.

Ooooh! I love the Mikrotik routers and would be super happy to have one of these.

I'm currently running an RB750GL at home on Voda 100 Mbps fibre and it copes.... just.

Bug:

We have provider supplied CCR's at work to run a 500 Mbps WAN circuit and I need the routes sent to me as OSPF Type 2.

The CCR's are configured to send Type 2 LSA's but there appears to be a bug where if the link drops, when it comes back up it sends Type 1 LSA's which messes with my equal cost load balancing against another circuit.

looking cool in my rack... yep

speed ... well it works better using DCHP (not PPPoE). Mikrotik say that the Fastforward (basically related and established packets bypass the firewall) is now working on PPPoE but im not entirely convinced.

Im just using the Voyager supplied Zyxel unit, whilst it does the job, it leaves a lot to be desired for a geek to play with. Was considering going the RB route (no pun intended), but being made redundant put a halt to those plans....

I would mount it in the garage where my "server" resides with a mess of network cabling and switches.....

I'm currently using the Spark Provided HG65b, which is super buggy. I have to restart the Router every 4 days, as it keeps crashing. Also it won't let me port forward ports I use VPN server ;(.

Currently I have my router located in a rack hidden away in the house, with a media server and a few raspberry pis for TVheadend.

I've recently completed the Microtik Certified Network Associate Course, so I'd love to have a speedy Mikrotik Router to play with and get running at home.

I would really love to upgrade my Netgear DGN2000, especially with Fibre becoming available in April, its definitely going to need an upgrade. Although the DGN2000 hasn't had any real issues, its certainly feeling very dated.

Looks like a very nice piece of kit.

This is a photo of my current humble setup - a Linksys E4200 running Tomato firmware - bought from TradeMe for not much.

The biggest "bug" has been getting my telephone to work with this newfangled fibre. I mean, I haven't had it that long, and it's already unsupported...
