Kylo and Rey fighting against the red guys were amazing. For a second I could imagine the universe ruled by them. That would be a great plot twist.

For me, the red guys were deeply unrealistic. They moved more like a modern dance troupe than lethal bodyguards. I bet if you put a bit of Michael Jackson over the routine it would match...! It looked far too scripted and neat.

I overall enjoyed it, but the really annoying bit (apart from those silly birds) was the the rebel cruiser is lighter (lighter in space!) so can go faster thing. I mean, it was silly enough the ultra slow bombers that seem to need ground level gravity to "drop" bombs on something in orbit without that. The attackers could have just gone to light speed momentarily and jumped all around the rebel cruiser rather that chasing them for half a day at "impulse". Its not as if everyone (the imperial destroyers that did nothing whatsoever in the whole movie) ran out of light speed fuel! **sigh I don't mind a few physics holywoodisims, but that that is just a step too far.

PS, the crystal Fox things were damn near the cutest thing ever invented

My wife wants a toy one of those (no, I do not know why - I just thought that they would make uncomfortable rugs....) but for some reason no such thing seems to exist, which I find amazing.

To be fair, virtue signaling in Star Wars is not new. It has always been political. The original trilogy is literally the story of an armed revolution against a tyrannical government, and the prequels are parallel stories of how democracy dies, and a good man falls trying to do the wrong things for the right reasons.

The difference with this one is that it's a lot more nuanced. Real people are rarely one-dimensional good guys or bad guys.

The medium may be different but it really isn't any different to novels like 1984 or Animal Farm. An American was highly offended when I pointed out the parallels between the Vietnam War and Star Wars years ago. He preferred to parallel the Soviet Union invasion of Afghanistan.

I hadn't really noted the women great/men dumb thing.

But I agree that "nuanced" is not a word I would ever use to describe this movie. It had all the subtlety of a sledgehammer.

Watched it today. Apart from the cinema saying "It's three hours" but failing to disclose it's actually 2:30 hours plus the 28 minutes of advertising they shoved down our throats...

Poe is a loser. Sorry, but everything he's failed at everything he's done. Luke could've done so much more than being a distraction. Lea flying in space goes after the deck being blown to bits was just too much stretch.

What we don't know after two movies is... WHY?

Why did the Republic fall? Why the First Order came to be? How come Snoke use old, battered, Empire cruisers, battleships, fighters and land materiel? How come the Resistance is back at being The Resistance? Why did they fail to preserve the New Republic in first place?

Did Luke, Han and Leia ultimately fail?

I thought it was pretty bad.

The side mission/mutiny with Poe, Finn, and Rose failed and resulted in hundreds of deaths (if not for them the plan to escape unseen to the planet would have worked). But they will still, no doubt, be regarded as heroes of the Resistance.
The entirety of the last movie was about finding Luke, then his last grand act of redemption is to provide a 5 minute distraction.
Leia doing Superman in space. If she had all these force powers maybe she could have better utilised them elsewhere to help the Resistance?
Snoke. What was his story? Doesn't matter, let's kill him REALLY EASILY.
Much of the acting and dialogue was just cringe-worthy.
What little character development there was was extremely simplistic and one dimensional.
They took a very simple story idea, and turned it into convoluted 2.5 hour mess.

I don't care about anything on the show other than

- space battle scenes awesome, too short

- anything with Rey - awesome, not enough. what, no parents?

- Kylo Ren / Snokes / Jedis - i wanted more

- everything else a waste of time

- exact sentiments for Force Awakens

The original star wars was not political - it's just a theme that is common for that era - a Nazi re-enactment. Dark side = Nazis, same with Marvel's captain america, any other series of that era.

I felt it was a good movie, but did little to progress the story.
Snokes gone before he did anything and we still don’t know anything about him, which is kinda a big deal in the years after Vader and the emperor were gone. We still don’t know anything definitive about Rey’s parents, and why she was crying as a girl watching a ship take off in the force awakens flashback. Rey just looks grumpy most of the time, and has still had no real training of merit.

A lot felt like it was throwing plot twists in just to actively prove they weren’t copying empire, like they overly did with Star Wars/new hope in the force awakens. No we didn’t see Snokes death coming, but what’s left to tell now. With Luke gone there’s no cliff hanger to the next episode, and they have to wrap it up now in just one movie. I could see 2 or 3 more from here easily instead of the final 1. It feels like that’s the end and has set up a new trilogy now?

I felt this move shat on Luke, in favour of setting up a new platform for new characters. Luke saved Vader and then hid away after some nephew problems. Didn’t seem true to the character.

His moment was big yes, but all these movies use the force in ways it was never used in the original 3. Even the prequels (shudder) had flying droids, liquid organic ships and huge flying force jumps etc. now we’re mind linking like Spock, stopping later blasters in mid air and beaming holograms across the galaxy?!

I’m a huge opponent of reboots, trying to take worlds/stories off in new directions unnecessarily and re invent the ‘physics’, and I’m feeling a bit of this now. Heaps of the movie was to cast off the old movies and set the scene to makes lots of money from the new ones to come. the casino bit was quite crap really.

Other than that, it was a cool movie 👍🏻
