quickymart: Waiting to hear back from Samsung re the washing machine - I don't think it's fair I should be charged for any repairs, this thing isn't even 4 years old!

Agree - problems at under 4 years is really poor performance for a washing machine. The LG front-loader I bought back in 2007 came with a 10 year warranty and is still going strong, although it has developed a slight leak from somewhere underneath in the last year which I need to get fixed.

Handle9:
They don’t make them like they used to. They make them far better.

Can you imagine having a service agreement on your TV? It used to be common.

I remember the old Ultimate Vid-Matic that I grew up with. It would fail every two or three years, and the smoke and burning smell was always slightly unnerving...

In contrast, my LG LCD TV is ten years old and never needed servicing. When it eventually dies I'll just replace it as I think ten years is a good run.

Yeah we've had a couple of Panasonic plasma TV's one started playing up at about 15 yrs old, other still going strong (over 10 years) and now lives at my parents.

Yet we've had other appliances which you'd expect 10+ years out of, yet lucky to see 5.

Samsung have texted me and they're going to let me know when a technician can visit. Hopefully it's soon (and free).

Update: Samsung guy visited today, apparently the leak was caused by a loose hose inside the unit, which I couldn't see; he said it was the one connecting the washing powder/liquid tray-thing to the rest of the machine. He reconnected it and I think the problem is fixed now. I'm doing a drum clean cycle, and haven't noticed any water so far - it would normally be pouring out by now. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Well, that didn't last long. The machine is leaking again, but this just from the front, and it's only a dribble - nothing a towel underneath can't handle. A relative suggested it might be a loose seal, as it only seems to happen while washing a large load; smaller loads are okay.

E-mailed Samsung and they asked me to call them, so will have to do it again in the next few days when I have time.
