I have a few hours off today so I've powered through the keynote and feature videos alongside the quiz. Have been looking at a Synology 2 Bay NAS DiskStation DS220j to replace a now decommissioned WD MyCloud. Since the MyCloud security debacle I've relied on having everything stored online and on an external HD. I'd like to get back to having a local NAS solution again for the family. The cloud features of Synology actually look quite tempting, especially the backup integration.

Have a now ancient DS212j

It does what it does and has lasted longer than the drives I put in it!

I would love to win a new Synology to set up a backup for my current one that I foolishly set up as a single storage pool.

Count me in!

Squeezing the last out of my old Thecus and Plex has even discontinued support. A Synology would be incredible. Still going through the videos but all the features seem brilliant especially backups, security and Plex etc. and the 920+ sounds plenty powerful to see the winner into the future for a good while.

Good luck everyone!!

Sure. Got the keynote playing in the background.

I'm on my 3rd Synology NAS, and not sure I'd consider anyone elses, TBH. I started with a DS411j which was AWESOME (in 2011) with the Solid State Hybrid drives, it was great for my wife's photos, as the DROBO she had was... well, rubbish and slow as a wet week.

I got rid of the drobo for everything else, and got a DS413J I think. That lasted for ages, until I upgraded to a single DS418j with 4x4TB and sold the other 2.

All good - except I need to put some 8TB drives in now cos it's filling up. Good problem to have.

Most of my usage is just file storage and backup - SMB from macs, and NFS from linux machines and containers. Works great. My main goal is safely, not performance, and this works great.

The new router looks good, tho I just replaced all my wifi / router gear. Sort of tempted by the NAS tho - but I need to see if the backup stuff is supported by my NAS, as it would be useful to have a more-frequent backup (I do monthly snapshots)

My DS216j has been absolutely rock solid, but it would be nice to upgrade it to something capable of running Docker containers.

I do love the ability to run Minimserver on the DS216j - a UPnP music server that does an excellent job of serving classical music with all of the relevant tags.

Actually interesting product, haven't had the chance to run a NAS at home, so keen to play with one and all the features Synology has
