JimmyH:

More seriously, this woman comes across as a bit of a nut. It's essentially saying that she doesn't like a type of clothing so it should be banned. There is no suggestion of inappropriate conduct or harm to anyone. I doubt her boys cared. Heck, unless their mother was making a fuss I doubt they would have even noticed. I feel sorry for her boys, growing up with a mother like that probably isn't much fun. Also, if she's worried about that, wait until her boys discover what's on the internet!

I've been to public pool complexes in Germany where there were  nude people of various ages and both sexes and no drama.

Legally, women could probably choose to go topless at public pools in NZ.  The pool would have to either allow it or make women and men wear a top in the pool.

This is all rather woke and sexist and could enforce stereotype genderism on her boys.

If she has these types of gender worries then she should move to certain States in the bad old US of A.

So stupid and ridiculous.

I think her behaviour is exactly the opposite of woke.

A "woke" person (aware/attuned to social/personal issues) would not try to limit other people's rights.

At best she's a conservative.

Without hijacking this thread on the meanings of a single word but from my understanding, the word woke has come to have a myriad of meanings:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woke

Woke is a political slang adjective derived from African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) originally meaning alertness to racial prejudice and discrimination.[1] Beginning in the 2010s, it came to encompass a broader awareness of social inequalities such as racial injustice, sexism, and denial of LGBT rights. Woke has also been used as shorthand for some ideas of the American Left involving identity politics and social justice, such as white privilege and reparations for slavery in the United States.

My use is high-lighted, "social inequalities" and the way she is trying to enforce her social behaviours and believes on others.

Topless is not indecent, - This was confirmed by the Police years ago during the "Boobs on bikes" parades in Auckland....

It is possible for it to be "disorderly" under the summary offences act depending on the location and event ....

As a middle aged man I would quite like to cover my top half when I'm swimming at a public pool but unfortunately it's hard to find anything suitable that doesn't create drag when swimming. I have a wetsuit but it would be far too hot for doing laps in a heated pool.

There is more conservative swimwear available for women who want it, and it would be quite good to have something similar for men.

That's not what "social inequalities" means either.

My understanding is that public nudity is not in itself illegal either, as long as it is not done in a lewd or indecent way. This has come up a few times in the past and I think the authorities were glad to let it go quietly.

My personal attitude is we all have bodies and we all know what's on them and people like this lady are doing real damage to their children by teaching them there is something nasty about it. She has been warped, probably by religion, and unfortunately she is passing it on.

That’s what I meant except I tried to be clever with fancy words. 😊

The biggest problem with the word "woke" is the way its been hijacked as culture war short hand for anything that a certain type of person dislikes and want to belittle, regardless of its original meaning.

See David Seymour/sushi and certain sections of the internet whenever a movie or TV show with a female lead drops.

I don't have a problem with 'woke' but I have a real problem with 'drop'. What the hell does it mean? That something is no longer included or that something has fallen from the sky?

Indeed, I enjoyed visiting a place in Baden-Baden where no togs were allowed.

This is way off topic, but I'm with you on this one. I was once asked when we were going to "drop" a particular feature from the application we were developing, that particular feature was almost ready so I was a bit miffed they were instructing me to stop working on it and throw it away... apparently that wasn't the right interpretation.

If 8 year old boys today and are anything like we were back in my day, then their imagination will take over whether women are wearing skimpy bikinis or fully clothed.

Sadly my imagination was better than today's reality. Some are best unseen.

Well if they don't mind wearing a bikini in public. I guess they won't mind being in the background of boys taking selfies right?

Or a guy just giving lewd gestures and stares?

When is the unwritten line crossed in public anyways.

Ask any nudist. They know how it's done.
