I think in terms of having multiple accounts via the same IP address, you really have to be careful. TradeMe, however, needs to realise some people share wifi connections and even computers with "auto-login" enabled. TradeMe, as a good practice, should warn people first prior to disabling their accounts as it could've been an innocent mistake.

In terms of accessing your account overseas, TradeMe doesn't like that either. Yes you can check while in Aussie but anywhere else is a no-no.

I just hope TradeMe doesn't become so big (well, it already has, sadly) that they can do as they please - cough Apple cough.

Isn't that the aim of their Terms & Conditions? "Trade Me reserves the right to decline to register or to terminate your membership without entering into further discussions with you."

Each company _NEEDS_ its own account so that the invoices are seperate. I am working a friends business account, my business account, my personal account and have the ex flatmate often using my connection on their account, and my current flatmate has used my connection on their account numerous times.

All no problem.

The one thing I dont like is that they insist on a persons name on the business account and keep calling asking for that person and wont deal with anyone else.

Well worth keeping a sella.co.nz account running and supporting that site, too. TradeMe aren't nice to deal with if you're on the sharp end of a problem.

My troubles were trivial. They cancelled an auction I was running to sell a phone (that I had bought on TradeMe) because I included a photo of ALL the gear, including the UK power adapter.....and said the buyer would have to buy an NZ plug adapter.

BZZT!!!! Not legal for me to sell it without an NZ plug adapter.

I had no idea. I'd bought the Acer Liquid on TradeMe just as I was also selling it on TradeMe..... Hmm.

TradeMe cost me a sale as reserve had been reached and less than 24 hours was left when they withdrew it. Oh well......

I went to Sella. A "Plan B" is good. I haven't sold anything on TradeMe since. I go to Sella first. TradeMe weren't wrong in what they did....they were just arbitrary, inconsistent and unhelpful....which ends being another kind of wrong.

I sold the phone on sella.co.nz for only slightly less than had been bid on TradeMe.

Is there an auction part to Geekzone?

When I asked the ESS part of the MED about it, the requirement for a AS3112 plug on items was only relevent if it was a new item, and used personal sales sold as is were not.

Trademe are just enforcing something uniformly across the board to make it easier for them in that respect.

I never realised so many people had issues with two accounts at one address. I haven't had issues and I share the exact same name as my father, even when I was at the same address....I should probably go and find some wood.

If OP is still around I would also like to see the trademe side of the story.

This is where TradeMe is potentially too big for their own good. I agree, business should talk to their customers at the very least to explain their actions or try to find out the facts first than to just suspend an account.

There are so many people out there being dicks on trademe, and they dont know you from them, and to answer questions from people takes employee time, and you wouldnt be happy with the answer anyway so would write back again and again, Best from their perspective to just ignore anyone they kick off.

Sorry but any business should be geared to handle customer service enquiries. What if the power companies or the teclos followed your reasoning?

"Oh we get too many calls, so we'll just ignore them"

Does no one understand customer service anymore?

I asked once. They said one needs to be GST registered to have a TM business account, which is lame as I have a business and wanted to open an additional account to keep things seperate.

The problem is that not all businesses need to be GST registered. You only need GST registration if you are conducting a taxable activity and the value of your supplies is over $60,000 for the year.

Even a "Trade me only" business needs to register for GST if supplies will be over $60,000.

It sounds like a rule that some bureaucrat came up with to avoid the need to think.

Yeah don't worry, doesn't need to be GST registered anymore, I asked about that, since I'm a sole-trader so it's going on top of my weekly salary as a secondary income. Best t ocheck with them first, I sent them an email with my two usernames, blacklisted each account and wrote in my about "Business" and "Personal" and they are fine with it :) Mine definitely won't be going anywhere near 60k a year, i'd struggly to make 1/6 of that, I'm just doing it for part hobby and partly to get some dental/eye surgery that I require

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

I'd say it depends how it's worded too. If the person wrote back and were polite, sure trademe would probably answer them. If they were like "wtf, you F&$*$ why dad u dis4bl3 m3!!!" then yeah, I'd immediately delete that if I was on a service desk. same with phone calls, as soon as someone swears at you or puts you down on the phone, then you tell them you have to end the call. Luckily I do face to face dealings only and everyone seems to be much nicer in person, that they do via email or phone.

Perhaps they will take the Vodafone approach and charge you $1 per email.

They already have a 0900 number for customer service if you are not a topseller.

If the OP was not a seller at all, then trademe make no money from them directly and dealing with them is just an unneeded cost. I think that is a direct factor in how they treat suspect duplicate accounts.

Again, this is just ridiculous - where do you think success fees come from. They come from the buyers, not the sellers so should be treated equally.

I still cant grasp how you are trying to justify their lack of basic customer service
