Yup. They should build a bridge; there's one of similar length in Canada serving about 1/7th of the population, charging I think $50 per car. It must be possible to make the figures work...

A bridge over a very rough strait and a tectonic subduction zone would not be a great idea.

 

Only a question of money. Throw enough at it and a bridge could be built that would survive almost anything.

Serendipitously I read this in the Daily Telegraph this morning!

Trying to see what's changed in the latest Visual Studio, but can't access the site because Microsoft has messed up the SSL certificate... and is using the headers to force HSTS so Firefox doesn't give the option to continue anyway.
