Do what I do - just before arriving at my floor I stand in the doorway and as soon as it open I just power out unapologetically through the oblivious incoming fools.

Because organ recipients have their immune systems suppressed by medication, viral infection can be catastrophic. For example the ubiquitous Epstein-Barr Virus that causes mono/glandular fever, which 90% of us have had at some stage can be very problematic in those circumstances.

For most activities on the naughty list they are only interested in the last 6 - 12 months. If you answered yes to something they might undertake more tests and/or delay surgery until any disease potentially acquired by the donor can be detected. Some viruses can be undetectable for months after initial infection.

If a donor was positive for a disease of concern I'm guessing donation would not proceed. If the donor was at risk of a disease of concern that might not yet be detectable, and the recipient was critical I'm unsure how the decision would be made.

The transplant coordinator nurse did say to me that quite a lot of recipients end up not being well enough for surgery, so perhaps that situation never arises.

I'm not sure what they do with deceased donor organs? Blood tests for sure, check for needle marks? medical records? and interview family perhaps? Possibly some post-mortem checks are possible.

Other live donatable organs ... partial bone-marrow.

I'm not aware of any other live-donor solid organ transplants undertaken in NZ. TBH I only researched the kidney transplant. I've read of living-donor partial pancreas transplants overseas.

Interesting stuff. A friend of mine (in the USA) lost his dad to a liver disease of some sort. My friend could have donated his dad a partial liver but his dad refused it because he didn't want is son to be at risk from the donor operation. A terrible conundrum but the dad's wishes naturally could not be overruled.

Well I am pleasantly surprised.

Chorus came today.

Found it was a faulty pair from the pit 2 doors down, back to the cabinet a block away.

(Not direct to the exchange as previously told)

Gone from 25 disconnections from midnight to 1130am. Reconnected at 1.30pm and no drops yet.

WELL DONE Nemia from Chorus / Transfield.

He was very thorough, especially given the "intermittent" nature of the fault.

Strangely enough, I've had more problem with them this summer than ever before, despite the dry.

Maybe because leaving the doors and windows open till right on bedtime, coz its so hot already.

Drivers who ignore emergency vehicles with sirens blazing so they can get through traffic light changes.

Yesterday, right in front of me, 2 cars completely ignored a massive fire truck trying to get through traffic lights with active lights and sirens . Really annoys me, as not only do these drivers break the law, they don't give a crap if someone dies so they can get through the lights.

It just makes me think we are not far off the lord of the flies scenario . Do I overthink things?

I don't know if they would allow a plastic Christmas tree in a cemetery. Might look a bit tacky :-)

I'm the opposite. The real thing costs heaps, drops needles and then you have to get rid of it. We have an ancient fake one that looks like an xmas tree and you just put it away when done until next year.

It's for the kids, and they couldn't care less as long as it's a tree, has baubles and lights and presents underneath.
