I replaced an old stormwater drain, as I hadn't finished some concrete work, I left the end of it open (no screen/mesh) waiting to get around to it.  I spent all day yesterday digging, putting down soil and lawn mix, leveling and seeding an adjacent area.  It rained last night.  My stormwater drain was blocked.  This flooded half of my newly seeded grass, washing a channel right through the middle of it, along with about $20 worth of lawn seed. This has taken most of today to sort out. Working in the rain. Probably should start a "TIFU" thread - I'd probably be the #1 poster though...

People apparently without an ounce of logic in their brain and refuse to follow simple instructions.

Tonight - a mate messages me saying the wireless PtP microwave link at his house to the shed is down - the painters took it off the wall to paint. I jump on a computer over Teamviewer that's at the other end of the bridge (router end) and log in to the Nanostation to see what's what. I immediately notice that there's no signal coming from the other end at all. I immediately suggest that it doesn't appear to be powered on and to check it.

So what does he do?

Runs around like a headless chicken power cycling everything he can find at the end that's working just fine and is by extension completely unrelated. Computers, NAS, wireless APs and finally the router which of course then causes the Teamviewer session to drop. After half an hour of this and me repeating that there's not even a trace of signal so it's either off or fried, he finally checks what I told him to do at the missing bridge antenna end and finds it's not even powered on.

And this, kids, is why he's accomplished in 70 years what anyone else would take 35 to do.

Nah, I'd be up there.

When you manually change settings in Windows then an update comes along and changes them back.

Also driver updates that do the same thing. Enabling all the audio devices on the video card that I had disabled because they have nothing on them. So annoying.

Inexplicably my keyboard was working normally when I posted the message above, but then magically changed itself to UK layout when I logged out and back in.

Condolances. Never understood why UK thinks they need their own keyboard layout with everything moved to stupid places when its only a currency symbol that they need. Not like they have backwards R's and Cs with dangley bits etc.

So I would say that UK keyboard layout is something small that really annoys me. Particually when the muppets at raspberry pi made it the default.

And now, not being content with one update, it asked whether it could reboot at 5:49 PM for another update. I said no, which it took as licence to reboot at 6:09 PM without any further prompting (when I was in the middle of a video encode).

Especially when a keyboard layout change causes you to enter a password wrong. And then you have to figure out which keys that you need to press to type in the special characters in your password. Which is also very difficult if there isn't a username or other clear text field that you can use to figure out which key types which character.

Ah, Windows. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

Oh. Zero.

"Thank you for holding, your call is important to us."

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

"You're call may be recorded for training purposes"

1) I don't believe you. It's for legal purposes. You're lying.

2) I don't want it to be recorded

3) Put it in writing. You can write, right?

4) No, by 'in writing' I mean a business letter, on headed paper, signed on behalf of your company, not an email you dashed off in 10 seconds

People driving along oblivious to all the smoke farting out the back of their badly tuned vehicle.
