… that Freudenschade for a little longer anyway.

😁😁

If you mean the German word, it is „Schadenfreude.“ Otherwise it could be a „new term“ for our dictionary! 😉

So, I used google for spelling and was given from Quora

"Freudenschade" is a German word that translates to "joy in another's misfortune or downfall" in English.

HOWEVER both are correct words, one is just the antonym of the other

Schadenfreude refers to the unattractive human tendency to take pleasure in the misery of others. Freudenfreude describes its opposite, the lovely enjoyment of another person's success.   So in this case it could be either , the downfall of a boy race or the win of the police/tow track...

The point Tinkerisk was making is that the word "Freudenschade" doesn't exist. It's spelled Schadenfreude. And the antonym word is, as you pointed out, Freudenfreude, but that's not what you used in the previous post.

And I'd suggest you ignore Quora as a source for anything.

I was made to smile broadly on Sunday when my eldest son announced that he'd bought me a ticket to a sold out concert (Limp Bizkit) as he knew we'd had a pretty tough few months with the house and I needed a blowout.

He's a very good boy. And the concert was epic!

Seeing the old Dick Smith logo (with the face) on a shop that's currently in between tenants and having all the old signage pulled off.

Meeting the assessor from the insurance company at our house that's nearly finished it's reinstatement...and him finding more pedantic things than I had to complain about regards the workmanship.

It's actually quite nice to know you're not just a Karen.

Shoe Clinic.

I had a pair of trainers that used stitched tape to make the lacing eyes.

After 10 months, the tape tore in one eyelet. I emailed and sent a photo. They said best to bring them in.

I got round to that today. The salesman said really it’s fair wear and tear (apparently $280 trainers are only designed to last 700km these days!) but we’ve spoken to the New Balance rep and we’ll replace them with the latest version. Just this once mind…!

I wasn’t really expecting them to do that - maybe offer me $50 off some new ones or something, but to just replace them with no argument or fuss restore my faith a bit and certainly ensures that I’m going back next time I need shoes.

700Km is about right for running shoes. That's all I would get out of mine, after that they were confined to walking the dog or mowing the lawn. There was a time when I would go through a set of runners every 10-12 weeks.

@freitasm

I once had „Freudenschade“ search for it. Horror, what nonsense is being said in English from several sources!

As priviously stated, this word absolutely doesn't exist in our (German) language at all - not even in some bastardised or funny form!

Agreed. And for most casual runners, 700km is a fair chunk of time.

With Ultra marathon training, I'm going through 3-4 pairs a year.  It's generally not the tread or uppers that give up, it's the foam mid-sole that ends up squashed and ineffective.

Trouble is that I'm using up their active life faster than I can totally wear them out as "everything else" shoes.  Currently stockpile is 9 pairs.  One currently active pair plus the most recently retired pair for running use, the rest for varying degrees of general use down to garden and garage.

Having moved back into our house after 2 months in temp accommodation, with new kitchen, floors, paint etc.

Got all the furniture in, beds made and main boxes unpacked.

I'm posting this from my home office that I have been unable to use for the last 9 months.

The thing that makes me smile is that it's nearly, almost, mostly, all finished. **

**There are many boxes now in our garage that we are unsure of the contents, due to them having been packed away on storage over 18 months ago when the flood first happened. That'll be fun to sift through.

Oh, and we have no idea where our toaster went. 😆

I've been trying to get a booking at Attica for *years*, but I rarely manage to book my trips enough in advance and they usually have a 4 month wait for bookings. They have some but minimum 2 people, but my clever wife managed to convince them to let me have a single spot!

Now, to determine which of my children I need to sell to pay for it :)

Mrs Money Bags purchased a couple of anti-fatigue mats that were on special and put them on our tiled kitchen floor in front of the sink and another cupboard to save things getting damaged or broken should they get dropped.

I’m amazed what a difference they make to stand on. I stood at the sink to try one out and immediately felt my shoulders and lower back relax. No idea how that works.

Yup...it's great. Although on the odd occasion something drops and shatters on the non-mat part of the floor! Damn Murphy!
