Aredwood: Windows 10 again. One of its many updates now causes my desktop computer to randomly crash, sometimes after being on for only 2 hours or so. Do I just have to hope that a future update will fix the crashing problem? Or do I have to figure out which update is causing the crashes, disable it, and hope that it doesn't re enable by itself. As I don't think that Win10 has a system where you can block just 1 update, while still getting all other updates.

This is especially annoying as back when I has WinXP, It would happily run for 1 to 2 months without needing to be restarted. Even then, the only reason I would restart it was to install the monthly windows updates. Sometimes you would get lucky, and they would install without needing a restart.

I don't want to come across as a teenage fanboy but...Mac.

It's a paragon of stability in comparison and I never really understand why Microsoft can't achieve similar performance.
Updates do often need restarts but booting takes 20 seconds so not a big intrusion.

Windows was such a big thing that annoyed me that I've sworn off it forever now!

I agree. My Mac runs the same as when I bought it. The learning curve was mildly annoying, but that's long over.

Yes if only all those PC manufacturers would use a limited number of hardware components and software tuned only for their machines! But wait, then they would be the grey boxes that they were accused of becoming in the original Mac commercials last century....

The obnoxoius weed named wandering jew (Tradescantia fluminensis ).

This has an amazing reslience to most forms of herbicide ( and hydrocarbon)  control.

In preparation to planting a new lawn, a fair portion was covered with this thrice damned weed. Most other weeds succumbed to a couple of passes of glyphosate.

Not this stuff - I trried double strength glyphosate, I have tried Weed Weapon ( glyphosate with Saflufenacil ). I have even tried the scorched earth approach and sprayed upcoming shoots with petrol !!!! Everything curled up and died !!! You would have thought wandering jew would follow suit. ?

Nah, a few days later, more green shoots popping up.

Damned. Stuff. Just. Doesn't. Die !!!!

Looks like I'm gonna have to carefully scrape out the vine from wherever it is buried, and bin it in a bucket of petrol.

Grrr...

Big retailers that seem to advise their staff it's their right to have your name and phone number to enter into their database. They don't. As I told one today who started by asking for my phone number to type in "No. Just the receipt, please." He insisted he needs all my details for the warranty on the item I was purchasing. I said "No, you don't. That's what the receipt is for."

"But what if you lose the receipt?"

"Oh, I won't lose it. I know exactly where it's going. I'll be putting it in the bin next time I empty my receipts from my wallet. But I'll have number from the photo I'll be taking of it as soon as you stop asking for my information and give it to me."

Depending on the value of the sale, they are required to get details.

^ But it is New Year's Eve. Shortened to New Years - as in, 'What are you doing for New Years?'

Correct.

Even if OP is correct, it would be still "the new year"

Ought that not to be New Year's, since the Eve belongs to the New Year?

It's like "going to the doctors" when they mean "going to the doctor" (That also bugs me).

When I encounter these herbicide resistant weeds I usually win with a cocktail of glyphosate and triclopyr plus dye-and-stick.

I've had trouble with Acanthus which now that I know what it is, I see all over Auckland. Glyphosate on it's own not super effective but my cocktail does the trick, especially if I get spray on the underside of the leaves. Like wantering jew, it will re-germinate from a scrap.

Paraphrasing a bug report that I just received:
